Few could have predicted how popular Fortnite would become when it released back in 2017. Fewer still knew it would retain that popularity today as it prepares to celebrate its third birthday. To celebrate this achievement, and its players, Epic Games is planning to release free cosmetics. A recent leak revealed what two of them will be.

Developers know that the games they make wouldn't be where are without its players. This is why they do their upmost to prepare festivities for certain milestones like anniversaries. Fornite has done this in the past, but Epic Games hasn't disclosed anything about the upcoming celebration yet, leading many to question whether it will even occur this year. But leakers have confirmed the developer will indeed be throwing out free cosmetics to its players for the third anniversary of Fortnite.

A dataminer named ForniteFevers posted what they found while scouring the game's data through Reddit, revealing at least two birthday-themed weapons wraps. The first is pink with a squiggle of aqua in the middle, looking like a tiered birthday cake. The second is completely aqua and dotted with confetti sprinkles. If these don't get players in the mood for the game's birthday (and/or a slice of cake), nothing will.

This may be just a smaller piece of what's planned, but Epic has yet to state otherwise. If it's anything like past Fornite birthdays, there will be various challenges and possibly additional cosmetics, such as skins or sprays. Players will know soon, however, as Fortnite will be celebrating its third birthday next week, September 26. Whatever way it shakes out, it's nice to know these two free items are already on the way.

Until then, players can continue to participate in the Marvel crossover event that is preparing them for the imminent arrival of Galactus. Many of the heroes and villains from the pages of Marvel have invaded Fortnite, bringing with them load of activities and, most importantly, cosmetics. Players have been dressing up as characters like Thor and Iron Man, living our their superhero fantasies. There are also plenty of Marvel-themed challenges, such as the ongoing Wolverine challenges, the latest of which tasks players with launching off Sentinel hands.

Now that Fortnite is celebrating its third birthday and the next generation of consoles is around the corner, players may be curious where that leaves the game. Sony had a huge PlayStation event earlier this week, announcing tons of new games and finally revealing the launch date for the PlayStation 5. It also tried to prepare the world for preorders, which turned into a bit of a fiasco. But among the event's announcements was the confirmation that Fornite is a PS5 launch title, meaning players can continue to enjoy the popular battle royal game on the next gen console.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and mobile devices, with plans for PS5 and Xbox Series X support as each console launches.
