Not too long ago, Epic Games and People Can Fly revealed the decision to add Jetpacks in the popular multiplayer sandbox survival title Fortnite Battle Royale, with many anticipating that the item would come as soon as this week due to the companies having already advertised them in-game. However, it looks as if the incorporation of Jetpacks has been delayed, and instead of offering players nothing, the publisher and developer have decided to add Hunting Rifles in lieu of the highly coveted flying apparatuses.

This much as been confirmed in an email from Epic Games to PC Gamer, with the video game company stating that Jetpacks are no longer “this week’s new item” for Fortnite Battle Royale, as “a last minute design issue” has caused the development team to work on correcting the unspecified problem. In the meantime, players will “be able to enjoy lots of no-scopes with the new Hunting Rifle item and a new, lucky point of interest on the map.”

At this point, it’s still somewhat unclear as to exactly what kind of a role Jetpacks will play in Fortnite‘s Battle Royale mode. That said, though, it seems as if they will be objects that players can pick up individually in the map during a match due to Epic Games having initially unveiled them with a golden background, which signifies legendary item status. What’s more is that there’s no telling exactly how powerful they will be, as Jetpacks’ abilities could be an extended variation on jump pads or a completely operational flight mechanism.

Taking all of this into consideration, despite Epic Games’ lack of a specific definition in regards to Jetpacks’ exact functions within Fortnite Battle Royale mode, it appears as if won’t have to wait much longer to start using them for ourselves and working their purpose into our own personal gameplay strategies for Season 3. So, while the addition of Hunting Rifles definitely doesn’t replace what could potentially be a completely new dimension to the game, it’s safe to say that many will wait patiently for Jetpacks and embrace the new weapon with open arms for the time being.

Fortnite is available now in early access for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
