Forspoken is an upcoming game by Luminous Productions, and it will feature exciting open-world exploration and a story involving magic, evil matriarchs, and an unwilling heroine on a quest to find her way home. In the lead-up to Forspoken's release, gamers have gotten a glimpse of a few of the supporting characters they will encounter on their journey. Although these characters already seem intriguing, they will need meaningful backstories and complex personalities for them to be memorable.

All eyes are on the upcoming game, though it has faced a few delays. It is currently slated for an early 2023 release, making it a good year for Square Enix, as two Final Fantasy titles are also expected. With its magical parkour traversal, magic combat, and gorgeous visuals, Forspoken has captured the attention of the gaming world, though it will need to be an outstanding title to live up to the high expectations it has set.

The Supporting Cast of Forspoken

forspoken-story

Forspoken is focused on Frey Holland, a New Yorker who has had a less than idyllic life. She finds herself warped to the magical land of Athia, which is usually peaceful, although it is currently corrupted by a mysterious and sinister force known as the Break. Furthermore, malevolent matriarchs known as the Tantas terrorize the inhabitants of Athia, and it will be up to Frey to defeat them if she ever hopes to find her way home. Fortunately, she will not be facing these massive challenges alone, as there will be a few companions around to help her out.

Perhaps the most enigmatic character revealed thus far is Cuff, who is a talking bracelet worn by Frey. As has been explained, Cuff will help her explore Athia, and he is voiced by Jonathan Clarke. Players will also meet Johedy the archivist as well as Auden, who befriends Frey and believes in her ability to overcome adversity. There has not been too much revealed about these characters, but they have already piqued the curiosity of many gamers.

How Forspoken Can Give the Supporting Cast Good Story Arcs

Forspoken's wide and varied cast should complement Frey quite well as she discovers more about herself and her potential. However, these characters need to be complex and not just props surrounding the heroine. Fortunately, it appears that there are already fairly complex plots budding around the supporting cast. For instance, Auden's faith in Frey could become an important aspect of her character development, as it appears that outside of her cat Homer, she does not have many friends in New York. It would also be interesting to find out more about Johedy and how he came to be a knowledgeable archivist.

The supporting characters will likely be well-written thanks to the competent team behind the game. Writers include Amy Hennig, whose past titles include Uncharted and Legacy of Kain, which are noted for their focus on the dynamics between characters. Gary Whitta, who co-wrote After Earth, will also be involved. With such talented figures working together, gamers can look forward to a character-driven story.

When Forspoken was first shown to the world in 2020, it was portrayed as an example of what next-generation games would be capable of. The new consoles have arrived, and they have had time to find a comfortable spot in the gaming landscape, yet Luminous Productions' game is still nowhere to be seen. Hopefully, the long wait will be worth it, and players will get to enjoy a game with a strong female lead and a memorable supporting cast.

Forspoken is scheduled to release on January 24, 2023, on PC and PS5.
