For Honor reaches number one in the UK sales charts in its first week of release, beating out the likes of Grand Theft Auto 5 and FIFA 17 to claim the top spot.
Ever since For Honor was originally announced back at E3 2015, gamers have been awaiting the release of the multiplayer-focused title. With the game now available, all those who were looking forward to jumping into vicious melee combat now have the chance to do so. According to the most recent UK sales charts, it seems as though members of the gaming community have been taking taking the opportunity with both hands.
The UK sales charts come courtesy of GfK, which has kept track of UK video game sales for the week ending February 18, 2017. It certainly makes good reading for Ubisoft, as For Honor has managed to grab first place in the rankings. Although specific sales figures are not listed, it's still an impressive feat, particularly with the title topping the charts for both Xbox One and PS4 sales.
It's also good to see an entirely new intellectual property beating out some of the heavy hitters of the gaming world. For Honor took the top spot from previous holder Grand Theft Auto 5, while other major franchise releases on the list include FIFA 17, Battlefield 1, and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Meanwhile, the patient and rewarding Sniper Elite 4 walked into the second spot in its first week on the market.

Meanwhile, the critical reception from others has also been very positive so far, although it will perhaps be a few months before the long-term reach of the title is truly known.
Given the sheer number of players who tried out the beta of the game, it's perhaps not surprising to see it landing such an upbeat response. For Honor had the biggest PC beta in Ubisoft's history, pulling in a massive 6 million players over the course of the test. Clearly, Ubisoft was then willing to tweak the game based on such a large feedback pool, with a day one patch ringing in the changes.
