Check Out For Honor’s Special Editions

Ubisoft’s E3 conference reveals new details about the special editions for the first person, medieval combat game For Honor, where players must rely on might rather than magic.

Ubisoft had some big reveals at its E3 press conference, announcing the return of some of its most popular franchises, such as Watch Dogs 2 and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands, but even more interesting to many was an extended look at the new IP, For Honor. Ubisoft showed off a substantial, For Honor gameplay trailer at its conference, and followed the show up with the announcement of two special editions that will be available for purchase.

For Honor is Ubisoft’s historically inspired medieval combat game, where players choose to be a character from one of three different factions; Knights, Vikings, or Samurai. The game has received a lot of buzz due to its unique combat system, which instead of using any magical or fantasy elements, centers around brutal hand to hand PVP combat where blocking and hit location are the key to victory.

During the conference Ubisoft announced that there will be two special editions of For Honor that will be available for purchase or preorder and will bundle DLC with the original game. The Deluxe Edition will have what Ubisoft is describing as “valuable and unique extra content” including “exclusive customization items, a special execution effect for all heroes, and more.” The Deluxe Edition will be sold for $70.

The Gold Edition includes all of the content from the Deluxe Edition as well as a season pass for future DLC. Though Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed that For Honor expansions will be coming in the future, the publisher states that the season pass will allow players to access “exclusive content and extras.” The Gold Edition will sell for $100. Ubisoft also announced that anyone who preorders any version of the game will receive the Legacy Battle Pack which gives players access to three armor designs, one for each of the game’s three factions.

For Honor has been receiving a lot of hype since its reveal at last year’s E3. Creating an original IP that is a hack and slash game, that doesn’t include many of the standard fighting tropes of the hack and slash genre, was a surprise to many. Even more surprising was that the game was coming from Ubisoft, a company that is often seen as being reliant on its big franchises such as Assassin’s Creed and the Tom Clancy games. But with the company’s announcement that it will not be releasing a new Assassin’s Creed for 2016, this may point to Ubisoft’s interest in investing in new IP and creating new franchises.

For Honor will release February 14, 2017 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
