With For Honor now on store shelves, this guide details some of the fastest ways to earn the in-game currency known as steel so players can start purchasing and customizing new gear.
The smell of battle is in the air as Ubisoft's action brawler For Honor is finally on store shelves. Customization is a major component of the experience as players are encouraged to personalize everything about their experience from their emblem right down to each of the twelve hero classes available within the multiplayer experience. While the content is not locked behind a paywall including all upcoming post-launch content as well, players will still need to acquire and spend in-game current to get everything they want.
Similar to renown in Ubisoft's other competitive multiplayer title, Rainbow Six Siege, For Honor also has its own in game currency known as Steel. This valuable currency enables players to purchase all kinds of items in-game including new heroes, new customization items, and more importantly, new gear for unlocked characters heroes.
Thankfully, players can earn steel for playing just about everything For Honor has to offer. In order to maximize player gain rate, here are the best ways to earn more of it, faster.
Multiplayer Bounties
For many, the multiplayer experience is the main draw of the title. As such, just participating in any of the online modes will net players a small amount of steel after each and every match.
In order to maximize steel gain, players should activate orders, which serve as player challenges. On the main multiplayer map screen, players should select orders (L1 or Left Bumper on consoles) to see a full list of Daily and Contract Orders to pick from. Daily orders change each day, so time is limited on these to fulfill the objective. Up to three contract orders can be manually selected from a list and remain active until the player finishes the task or swaps it out for something else.
Orders have a specific requirement that needs to be met and lets players know if it can be completed in player matches or against AI bots. Finishing the task typically rewards XP and steel with more difficult challenges offering more for the trouble.
Finally, event orders are Ubisoft specific challenges that call upon all players to contribute to over coming a global challenge. Doing so provides a good amount of steel along with scavenger crates for unlocking additional gear for hero characters.
Solo Campaign
For players who may not be ready to step into the multiplayer arena right away, Ubisoft has made sure to reward solo campaign players as well. Rewards are hidden around the various levels during the campaign so players should keep an eye out for breakable objects in the world. Typically, these will appear as a group of pots with a white outline around them. Smash them and pick up the reward inside of them to find unlockables like steel, new emblem materials, and much more.
Downloadable Content
While not the cheapest method, the fastest way to earn steel would be to purchase itfrom an online marketplace such as UPlay with real money. Steel can be purchased in various credit packs which range from the lowest starting at $4.99 for 5,000 steel to the most expensive ringing up at $99.99 in exchange for 150,000 steel.
Other Tips and Tricks
If the beta was anything to go by, finishing off the Advanced Practice mode will net players free steel as well. The beta gifted 2000 steel for those who found and finished it, so it is worth checking out in the main game as well. Either way, these modes will help get you more comfortable with the combat in For Honor.
