A Density 2 fan noticed the outfit that actress Florence Pugh wore to the Met Gala makes her look weirdly similar to the titular character from the game's Witch Queen expansion. While this is probably just a coincidence, it's funny to think that some fashion designer might have been copying Destiny 2's homework.

Bungie launched the FPS MMO Destiny 2 in 2017. The free-to-play online game takes place in a post-apocalyptic Solar System after human civilization was nearly destroyed by an ancient evil called the Darkness. Players take the role of the Guardians tasked with defending humanity from hostile alien races. Destiny 2's antagonists include the Witch Queen Savathun, one of the primary gods of the game's hostile, Darkness-worshipping Hive species. While she's made several appearances in Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the Witch Queen's been a presence in the series since the original game's The Taken King expansion.

The 2023 Met Gala took place yesterday in New York. Organized by the fashion magazine Vogue, it's considered to be the world's most prestigious fashion event, with invitees including prominent actors, models, athletes, politicians, business people, and others. The highlights of the event are the elaborate outfits worn by various celebrities. This year's attendees include English actress Florence Pugh, who voiced Goldilocks in 2022's Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and will appear in the upcoming film Dune: Part Two. Interestingly, her outfit included an odd headdress that bears a passing similarity to the Witch Queen's helmet in Destiny 2.

Pugh's hat consists of a thin headband with several long black feathers sticking straight up. However, the shape of the feathers makes it look like a series of narrow rods holding up a ring at the top. As Reddit user SirPork7111 pointed out, this gives Pugh's headdress a passing resemblance to the crown on top of the Witch Queen's helmet in Destiny 2. While the two pieces of headwear don't look that alike on their own, the similarities are striking when one looks at them side-by-side. Click here for SirPork7111's post.

There is no evidence that the towering headpiece Florence Pugh wore was in any way actually inspired by Destiny 2's Witch Queen. Still, there's no evidence that it wasn't, either. In all seriousness, this is almost definitely just a funny coincidence. Still, it's amusing to imagine fashion designers borrowing ideas from Bungie's science-fantasy FPS. So perhaps Destiny 2 fans should keep their eyes out going forward.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
