Another Five Nights at Freddy's game recently launched on Steam, and it looks immensely different than other titles in the series. It's called Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator and appears to be a huge departure from the series' horror roots.

From what can be gleaned from its page on the Steam store, Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator is more like a low-res collection of mini-games made for the Atari 2600. It's described as, "a fun Five Nights at Freddy's adventure with a lighter touch for the holidays." Players will be put in charge of their own restaurant, where they'll make pizzas, feed hungry kids, and rack up high scores. The game's trailer doesn't show much beyond making pizzas and feeding kids, so it's not clear if the game includes more modern simulator elements.

However, the reviews for Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator hint at something more. Many of the user comments say the game isn't what it appears to be, urging those on the fence to download it. The game is also enjoying very positive reviews and is absolutely free, so there are plenty of reasons to give it a try.

There were hints of a side project like this one when creator Scott Cawthon announced the cancellation of Five Nights at Freddy's 6 a few months back. According to the official statement from Cawthon, he was finding difficulty in balancing his life with development of a new game, due to growing fan expectations for each sequel. He promptly ended development, leaving the fate of the main series unclear.

Cawthon could pick the series back up at a later date or he might focus on new, smaller projects like Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator. It's possible the series may even transcend video game altogether. A Five Nights at Freddy's feature film was planned shortly after Warner Bros. acquired the rights back in 2015, but never got off the ground. Earlier this year, horror studio Blumhouse secured the movie rights, so a film could still be on the table at some point in the future.

Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator is available now on Steam.
