Back in 2014, a little known indie game called Five Nights at Freddy's took the horror world by storm, with massive YouTube stars playing the game and helping to skyrocket the series and its creator into overnight success. With the first FNAF game celebrating its seventh anniversary, there is seemingly no slowing down the killer animatronic nightmare fuel, as the newest game is due for release. With that, a gameplay trailer was dropped recently, which shows some footage from the game itself as well as the official launch day.

Called Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, this latest installment in the franchise is set in a glam rock, 80s-style version of the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Restaurant and, according to the trailer, will be releasing for PS4 and PS4 on December 16, 2021. The footage also shows some brief, yet eerie, moments from the game, as well as the characters. Security Breach will feature a number of animatronic antagonists, such as Glamrock Chica, Montgomery Gator, Roxanne Wolf, and of course a glam version of Freddy Fazbear himself.

With the franchise's original creator Scott Cawthon retiring following political controversy, Steel Wool Games are developing the new title, who have collaborated with Cawthon in the past on FNAF game, Help Wanted which released physically last December. Help Wanted is a virtual reality installment in the creepy horror series, which had 40 mini-games as well as updated versions of the first four titles, as well as the spin-off, Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location.

While the original games are known for their stationary gameplay mechanics, in which players typically stay in one location and check security cameras for approaching animatronics, the later games do deviate, allowing players to actually wander around. The first Five Nights at Freddy's game is a genuinely intense experience, causing untold panic in the community as players struggle to keep an eye on the demonic puppets to survive each night. Judging by the Security Breach trailer, the new game will involve players actually moving around the restaurant, distracting the animatronics, and keeping out of their sight.

Although FNAF: Security Breach was delayed a while back, fans will be pleased that the new title now has an official release date. The popularity of the series has dwindled a little over the years, but it's still a relatively new franchise, still yet to reach double figures. With the newer games and spin-offs altering the original gameplay format, which may have started becoming stale to some, it will be interesting to see whether this latest installment will bring it back into vogue.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach is due to release on December 16 for PC, PS4 and PS5.
