Though still a relatively unexplored genre, FMVs are starting to become more prevalent as time goes on. One of the most recent ones, Five Dates, now has a release date on console. The game is set to release on November 17th for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, and promises to let fans experience the complications of digital dating in the midst of a global pandemic.

For those that aren't familiar with the term, FMV stands for Full Motion Video, and refers to a type of video game where all the action takes place in the form of pre-recorded real life scenes. Players can think of it as something of a choose your own adventure story or a non animated Telltale game. Five Dates sees players take control of Vinny, a young adult from London as he attempts to wrap his head around digital dating.

Among many things, Five Dates offers a few stars in the cast, including Mandip Gill, best known for playing Yasmin Khan in Doctor Who, and Georgia Hirst, made famous by her role as Torvi in Vikings. Players will have the option to go on dates with five different girls, and the choices they make during those dates will affect the story moving forward.

Developers Good Gate Media and Wales Interactive claim that the title was entirely conceptualized and filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and should help to bring a bit of relatable humor and fun to the average lockdown. It also boasts seven hours of filmed footage, which it claims too be the most amount of footage in any FMV game to date.
