The flagship Nintendo Switch tactical RPG Fire Emblem: Three Houses has drawn some controversy following the inclusion of its protagonist Byleth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However it's still a wildly popular and acclaimed title for the long-running series, and few things show the dedication of Three Houses fans more than a project remaking the game as a GameBoy Advance title.

The most recent two-and-a-half-minute video showcasing this Fire Emblem: Three Houses demake was uploaded to the Vilibear YouTube channel on February 3, but the project originally started as a one-shot recreation of the game's prologue uploaded on November 26, 2019. That video received so much traction with people looking to lend a hand that the development team uploaded a video on Christmas where Byleth announced they would work on the rest.

Last week's update video says the team is currently working on Chapter 5, and then jumps into beta footage playing underneath a chiptune version of the main Three Houses theme. Fans of the three GBA Fire Emblem games (The Blazing Blade, The Binding Blade, and The Sacred Stones) will immediately recognize the impressive amount of work put into recreating characters like Dorothea and Felix over the class sprites used by the likes of Nino and Joshua.

However, more impressive is the full recreation of Garreg Mach Monastery, also added into Smash Ultimate, where Byleth can meander the grounds and take part in a slice of life mechanic like talking to students, gardening, and answering anonymous concerns.

In the comments of the video the developers confirm they are only going to be working on the Blue Lions route, one of three sides players can choose within the main game, not counting the upcoming "Cindered Shadows" DLC side story. They also respond to a very concerned commenter wondering if the ever-popular Gatekeeper would be included, which the developers confirmed would be added.

It's hard to overstate just how amazing the work put in by this team is, and frankly, it would be interesting to see a similar amount of passion thrown at a GBA-style remake of one of the lesser-known NES or SNES Fire Emblem games. For now though, the internet should count its blessings and support this fan project as it moves "full speed" into development by checking out the Three Houses Demake Discord.
