Fire Emblem Heroes has gotten an update today that's added several new features.

Fire Emblem Heroes is a mobile spin-off of Nintendo's popular Fire Emblem series. In it, the player takes the role of "the Summoner," who is able to summon Heroes from different worlds. For example the Gatekeeper, who won Round 5 of the Choose Your Legends vote. These Heroes include characters from across the Fire Emblem series, which the player can collect in a gacha system by spending orbs.

This relates to the most notable new feature, the My Summoner system. Players will now have the ability to customize their in-game Summoner. They'll be able to change their Summoner's name, appearance, and set a greeting for when their Summoner appears in their friend's games. The player's Summoner can also be customized as a playable unit. They given skills from any other character in the game and used in the Mjolnir's Strike mode.

This update also adds a few other small tweaks to the game. The Brace Phase map of the Mjolnir's Strike mode is now bigger. It also has more slots to add Mythic Heroes like Three Houses' Saint Seiros and one the player's Summoner for defensive teams. Some Legendary Heroes will also be getting new skills.

This is a fun way to incorporate the Summoner into the game. They've always been a part of the story, but as kind of a non-entity. They weren't usable in gameplay, just as a way to incorporate the player into the narrative.

On the other hand, the feature is a little lacking. There aren't many portraits to choose from when customizing the character, so all Summoners are bound to look the same. And it's a little unfortunate that they're only usable in the Mjolnir's Strike mode. They would be really useful in Heroes' mech-themed Book 5 storyline.

Fire Emblem Heroes is available now on Android and iOS devices.
