Though Fire Emblem Heroes is a celebration of the turn-based RPG franchise's long history, it has become well known for adhering to the gacha game convention of releasing special units for limited times. More often than not, these Fire Emblem Heroes units are based on holidays like New Year's, but there have also been banners themed around weddings, and today the mobile game added pirates.

Many themed banners in Fire Emblem Heroes draw characters from one particular entry in the franchise, but today's "Pirate's Pride" units come from multiple games: Tibarn from Radiant Dawn, Brigid from Genealogy of the Holy War, and Geese from The Binding Blade. The headlining pirate unit is Veronica, an original character from Heroes, paired with Xander from Fates as a new "Harmonized Hero" that can buff other units from their respective titles.

This summoning focus will end on September 6, 2020, and joining the crew through a Tempest Trials event is Darros from Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. The pirate banner begins as summer-themed Fire Emblem: Three Houses characters make their way out, and they were announced through a Feh Channel update video August 1 that highlighted more changes to the game such as adjusted screen displays for taller smartphone models.

Fire Emblem Heroes has been one of Nintendo's most successful ventures into the mobile market, with a big reason for that success being its limited-time special characters that encourage binge purchasing. Earlier this year, Heroes added a controversial monthly subscription pass on top of its microtransactions.

Fire Emblem Heroes is available now on iOS and Android devices.
