A new set of gameplay preview videos for Fire Emblem Engage introduces a brand-new character known as Etie. Back in September, fans got the first look at Fire Emblem Engage during a Nintendo Direct. It introduced several new characters including its protagonist, Alear. Alongside these new characters was the concept of legacy Fire Emblem characters like Marth, Celica, and Sigurd in a mechanic known as Emblems. The official Fire Emblem Twitter account are giving short previews of the game, introducing both new and old characters that will be appearing in the game. The protagonist Alear for example hails from the kingdom of Lythos which is in the center of the continent Elyos. There is a neighboring kingdom that is known as Firene, which has a number of characters that the player can recruit into their army. This includes the likes of Firene's princess Celine, along with one its knights, Etie.RELATED: Fire Emblem Engage Preview Gives Details On SigurdThis preview was translated by SatsumaFS on Twitter, where Etie is a knight in training from Fire Emblem Engage. She is a young woman from a noble family, who is described as being elegant. Despite her elegance, she is described as being focused on training. A preview of her gameplay was also shown, where her starting class is an archer.

With her focus on being an archer, she is best from fighting from far away. Fire Emblem bow users typically have lower defenses, best for dealing chip damage to stronger enemies from a safe distance or scoring a critical hit. They are also best used against flying enemies, where their arrows can deal far more damage than normal attacks. These attributes were both demonstrated in a gameplay clip, where Etie shoots down a pegasus flying enemy with a critical hit.

The last preview provided by the Twitter account is a support conversation between Etie and the female version of Engage's protagonist Alear, where the former notices the latter staring at her intently. According to a translation of the conversation, Alear has been staring at Etie's face, where she notices her positive and charming qualities. Alear even states she feels "energized" from her positive attitude, much to Etie's confusion. Some fans expressed some concerns over her character, with her being a little too derivative of past characters like Lysithea. This is only speculation however, so fans will need to wait until the game's official release in 2023 to see if these concerns are valid.

Fire Emblem Engage is coming to the Nintendo Switch on January 20, 2023.
