Nintendo has made available Fire Emblem Engage's launch day update, which largely focuses on compatibility for DLC. The new strategy game from Intelligent Systems remains on schedule to launch tomorrow, January 20, but as with most modern games there will be a day-one update waiting for players. While some day-one updates are substantial, Fire Emblem Engage's appears to only focus on key functionality and compatibility related to the Switch game's launch.Fire Emblem Engage is the latest release in the increasingly popular fantasy strategy game series. With the launch of Fire Emblem Awakening in 2012, the series has taken on a new life. The series has leaned further and further into social connections, a layer of gameplay building on Fire Emblem's already successful tactical combat. Intelligent Systems has also expanded Fire Emblem's online functionality, with the Tower of Trials and Online Trials. Suffice to say, Fire Emblem has grown increasingly complex alongside its growth in popularity.RELATED: Fire Emblem Engage Devs Explain How They Replaced MarriagesThe day-one update for Fire Emblem Engage is being delivered to ensure the new game is delivered as planned to customers on launch day. The patch notes make clear that the focus of the update is purely maintenance-focused. The first note is for "Compatibility with Expansion Pass," prepping for Fire Emblem Engage's post-launch content plans. Additionally, the second note is "A link to the Nintendo eShop 'Additional Content' has been added to the title screen" to further push the Expansion Pass.

The third note in the day-one patch notes is curious. It reads "Added free update benefits. You can receive it when you go to Somniel after Chapter 5." It's unclear what the bonus will be, but Intelligent Systems seems to want to reward players for updating their game. That's not a bad idea. After all, Fire Emblem Engage is a largely single-player experience. Not everyone will update their games, since there's no need to. But maybe they will for a free gift.

Fire Emblem Engage's fourth and final day-one patch note is "You can now use functions related to Internet communication." In other words, online functionality has been turned off prior to launch. That way, those who acquired a copy of Fire Emblem Engage pre-launch wouldn't be able to connect to official servers before they were ready. It's a common practice by Nintendo.

Those who were worried they'd have a substantial Fire Emblem Engage update awaiting them as soon as they started the game for the first time can now relax. The first patch isn't absolutely necessary, barring a player really wants to jump into Fire Emblem Engage's online features. And if players do take the time to update, it should be a relatively quick process. Players will be delving into Fire Emblem Engage's story and combat in no time.
