The third chapter of Fire Emblem Engage gives players a hint of the forward motion of the plot. After a quick couple of bouts with the Queen, someone has attacked the castle. Alear is forced to split from their mother, heading to the Emblem Ring room to keep the enemies from taking any of the rings. It's time for Alear's first real battle, and players will need to be on their toes for this one. For anyone new to Fire Emblem and Tactics-like games, they may have a little trouble keeping track of everything important in these battles.

Players will notice that there will be a lot more kinds of enemies in this battle; they will need to start keeping an eye on what kinds of units go up against what kinds of units and also keep track of unit types. In this battle, players will see sword, axe, and lance users, martial arts and ranged users, armored units and magic users, and Fire Emblem unit types like backup.

The three main types of melee weapons and other weapon types in Fire Emblem Engage each have strengths and weaknesses. If players attack one of these with something that is strong against it, the enemy unit will lose the ability to counterstrike.

  • Sword is strong against axe.
  • Axe is strong against lance.
  • Lance is strong against swords.
  • Martial arts is strong against ranged.
  • Magic users are strong against armored units.

Another great thing to keep in mind is that units gain XP based on the number of units killed by them, so players should not kill all enemies with one unit. Spread out kills as much as possible over all units in Fire Emblem Engage, one of the most anticipated games in January 2023.

The Battle of Fire Emblem Engage's Chapter 3

Most of Chapter 3 will be all about this battle. Players will have several units to defeat, including some backup and flying units. Thankfully, they'll be getting some help pretty quickly. On the second turn, players will gain three new allies.

  • Ranged: An archer named Etie to defeat the flying units.
  • Melee: Axe fighter Boucheron. He is strong against flying and also has backup.
  • Melee: A Mounted unit named Alfred.

Players must defeat the units carefully, keeping in mind their weaknesses and strengths. If players make an error, though, none of these should be able to one-shot them, so don't worry too much about losing units. However, players should restart the game and the fight over if they lose too much.

The boss of this battle is an armored unit, so make sure to use a Fire Emblem magic user like Clanne takes her out. Melee users won't be able to break her guard on their own. This should end this battle very quickly.

Fire Emblem Engage is available now for Nintendo Switch.
