Fire Emblem Engage shares a video preview that focuses on one of the returning characters, Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, who is making an appearance as one of the game's many Emblems. The recent trailer for Fire Emblem Engage focused on the Emblem Ring mechanic, which shows off the many returning mainline protagonists in a new role, giving a fresh layer of depth for the strategy gameplay. Each of these rings provides a unique benefit depending on the protagonist, which usually reflects the game they came from.
The official Twitter account for Fire Emblem Engage has been sharing plenty of details regarding the game, including its playable characters and mechanics. In a video uploaded to the account (translated by SatsumaFS), it gives out the details of what Byleth's Emblem Ring does and how it can be used. The video starts with a brief introduction of Byleth, with him being the Emblem Ring of the Academy, a title that references his role as a professor of Garreg Mach.
Byleth's Emblem Ring can increase the stats of allies around him, with one of them being his Synchro Skill, the Divine Pulse. If an attack has a chance to miss, it will rewind the attack and hit the enemy instead of missing. Another thing that Byleth provides is his ability to use the Heroes' Relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which will change depending on the unit. For example, a magic unit can use the Hero Relic Thyrsus to get a +2 in range for their magic attacks.
The trailer also sees two other Heroes Relics being used, along with new Engage forms for Etie and Chloe. Some of these Relics include the sword Blutgang and the lance Luin. Byleth's ring also has an Engage skill known as "Instruction" which will give the equipped character the "Instruct" command. This will raise all surrounding allies' stats for one turn. The stats raised are dependent on the battle style of the unit, with Draconic units in particular gaining a +3 to all of their stats at once.
One of the last things highlighted in this preview of Fire Emblem Engage is Byleth's Engage Technique: Goddess' Dance. Much like the franchise's dancer class, this action allows other units that have already made a move to act again. This technique however is a souped-up version of the action, where it will allow up to four adjacent allies to move again, along with boosting their stats. The video notes this is best used with flying units, as it allows them to cover lots of ground.
Fire Emblem Engage is coming to Nintendo Switch on January 20, 2023.
