An interesting feature that many of the recent Fire Emblem titles share is the possibility to build relationships between the player’s units by unlocking what’s referred to as Support Conversations. Fire Emblem Engage, the most recent title in the franchise, which was released on January 20, 2023, is not lacking in that department in any way.

While in the Somniel, it’s possible to go through these conversations and learn more about the characters and their pasts too. Without these conversations, a lot of characters would not be as interesting as they are. As in all the games, some conversations stand out more than others, and might give more insight into the stories of some characters.

6 Panette And Merrin

The support between the two retainers of the Timerra is on the more light-hearted end. Their support starts as they want to train to sing but Panette tells Merrin how they were referred to as the “Racket of Solm,” in reference to their singing voices. They decide to sing quietly so as to not bother anyone after that. In the following support, Panette announces that no one has complained about their singing, which at first makes them happy, but then Merrin intersects as she believes there’s no point in hiding their voices and they should just aim to become better.

Their last support is them improving their singing with some hard-to-understand advice from Timerra, which they somehow manage to achieve. They hope to be called the “Sirens of Solm” now instead.

5 Clanne And Vander

Vander is a stern and strict character that gives Clanne many orders, which often seem like irrelevant tasks to Clanne’s role as a Steward at the service of the Divine Dragon. This annoys Clanne as he struggles to take these tasks seriously and wonders why Vander insists on giving him this work. He always goes the extra mile, thinking maybe Vander just doesn’t trust him.

Clanne eventually asks him if he thinks of him as just an errand boy which causes Vander to be confused by what he’s saying. In their last conversation, Vander apologizes to Clanne and explains to him that the work he does, while it seems mundane, is, in fact, a big part of the job of a Steward.

4 Alear And Seadall

This support conversation between Alear and Seadall starts with Alear walking over to Seadall while the latter was practicing his dancing at night. Seadall, however, tells Alear that he isn’t practicing his dance but performing to the moon and stars as he believes that dead people become stars. One of these stars, he believes, is his deceased teacher who taught him the art of dance.

Following that, in their next support, Alear sees Seadall consulting his cards on whether he can or cannot eat the fried dough he is craving. When his cards refuse and Alear tries convincing him to eat the food nevertheless, he leaves after saying he has to be disciplined for the sake of his dancing. In their final support, Alear convinces Seadall that his inner joy also matters to make his dancing beautiful, and so he agrees to better himself as he takes the Divine Dragon’s advice to heart.

3 Celine And Alcryst

This Support Conversation starts after Celine had a dream that her brother Alfred died, a dream she claims is recurring due to Alfred having a chronic illness, even though the chronic illness does not affect him as much anymore. Alcryst then reveals to her that he also has nightmares where his brother, Diamant, is taken away from him. These two second heirs to their Kingdoms bond over their nightmares throughout their three support conversations.

Their Support Conversations evolve around this topic, and in their last Support Conversation, Alcryst reassures Celine that they will fight to protect their brothers and even tells her that he will protect Alfred as well.

2 Alcryst And Ivy

With both of these characters being from enemy Kingdoms, their Support Conversations start with a lot of tension. Alcryst blames Ivy partially for his father’s death due to the events prior to Ivy joining the group and the role she played. Faced by Alcryst, Ivy decides to apologize to him about his father’s death and hopes they can find common ground despite their countries’ history of conflict.

Their Support Conversations continue, with Alcryst admitting that Brodia has also hurt Elusia with their multiple invasions. Their last Support Conversation ends with the two wanting to overcome the issues plaguing both of their countries, that they will work to ensure that Elusia and Brodia can someday become Allies instead of enemies. Both grow closer and hold each other in high esteem.

1 Céline And Alfred

The Support of these two siblings from the Kingdom of Firene’s starts with Celine walking in on Alfred training by digging a very deep hole. Celine, confused by this, questions him and he responds by saying he’s digging a well for the kitchen staff who were complaining about a lack of water. Celine proceeds to call him a Barbarian in prince’s clothes due to his over-the-top behaviors, like digging wells or hot springs, which Alfred actually takes as a compliment.

In their last Support Conversation, Alfred is seen training outside while being in immense pain. It’s revealed that he is having an attack from his old chronic illness and that is the reason why he trains so hard. In the end, Alfred and Celine promise each other that they will be supportive of one another for the sake of Firene and themselves.

Fire Emblem Engage is available now for Nintendo Switch.
