Table of contents

Fire Emblem Engage offers players a great number of Emblem Rings to make use of, each calling the aid of a different Fire Emblem character to aid the wearer in combat and provide unique abilities and benefits. These range from passive bonuses to powerful special attacks and play a huge role in team building and army composition. This is especially true with higher difficulties.

While most emblems can be beneficial to any Unit in Fire Emblem Engage, there are definitely some combinations that are vastly superior to others, and this guide will cover some particularly notable options.

Alear + Corrin

Fire Emblem Engage_Alear and Corrin

Alear is a Dragon class, allowing them to take advantage of the Dragon Unit bonuses that certain Emblems have. For example, Corrin's Dragon Vein ability allows the equipped unit to create a Terrain Effect based on their class. Dragon Class units are able to choose from any of the Possible Terrain Effects, allowing players to easily modify the battlefield based on the situation. For example, players who have inherited skills from Marth to enhance Alear's Avo will find that Alear can make himself nearly impossible to hit by creating fog.

Dreadful Aura locks nearby enemies in place after an attack, allowing Alear to prevent the movements of large groups of units during combat and reduce those units Avo by 20. Meanwhile, Torrential Roar gains extra range when used by a Dragon Unit, allowing Alear to deal decent damage in a line while creating puddles of water that reduce enemy Avo.

Alcryst + Lyn

Fire Emblem Engage_Alcryst and Lyn

Prince Alcryst can be a tremendously powerful, if rather slow-moving, archer. Thanks to his unique advanced class, "Tireur d'élite," he gains access to the incredibly powerful Luna skill, allowing him to ignore half of his target's Def/Res when attacking, with the chance of the skill triggering determined by his Luck stat.

This can be quite potent when used with regular attacks but becomes ludicrously effective when paired with Lyn's "Astra Storm" Engage Attack, which can strike from a ludicrous distance multiple times, with each hit having a chance to trigger Luna. This allows Alcryst to deal immense damage over a long range and delete flying units from halfway across the map with ease.

Additionally, his Personal Skill "Get Behind Me!" is triggered whenever an ally within two spaces of him is attacked, raising his strength by 3, which synergizes excellently with Lyn's ability to create doubles to soak up hits and chain attack foes. Her assortment of Engage Weapons, including two very powerful bows, also work very well on Alcryst. Alacrity is also handy when shooting at ranged units to get in both attacks before they have a chance to counter.

ANYONE + Sigurd

FE Engage Sigurd Emblem

Sigurd's incredible skill set makes him a boon for any character players choose to equip him to, boosting movement and greatly enhancing overall mobility whilst providing a powerful charge attack that pierces through lines of enemies and immunity to the irritating but relatively uncommon Freeze spell.

Putting him on mounted units like Alfred, or Fliers like Chloé, will give them insane movement when Engaged, allowing them to traverse ridiculous distances in a single turn. Putting him on an Armored Unit like Louis or Jade can turn them into a lightning bruiser that can easily keep pace with enemies and reposition with Overrun.

Fogado + Lucina

Fire Emblem Engage_Fogado and Lucina

Lucina's assortment of bow-related skills and ability to turn any character into a chain attack capable unit make her an excellent choice for units like Fogado, who have better range and can stand behind tankier frontline units while still contributing a ton of damage.

Fogado's mobility also makes it easier to trigger "Dual Assist," which allows the unit equipped with Lucina to sometimes chain attack enemies that they could reach by moving when another unit attacks that enemy. Bow Agility comes in handy to improve Fogado's survivability, and positioning him carefully can allow him to make good use of Bonded Shield too.

Hortensia + Micaiah

Fire Emblem Engage_Hortensia and Micaiah

As quite possibly the best staff wielder in the game, Hortensia pairs excellently with Micaiah when using the Sleipnir Rider class. Healing Light and Staff Mastery allow Hortensia to keep herself healthy whilst refreshing the front lines almost effortlessly, and Sleipnir Rider's class skill adds a chance for her to save charges on her staves to keep her going even longer. This, plus the extended staff range from Micaiah, and the excellent movement speed offered by Sleipnir Rider, allows Hortensia to be a very mobile medic with tremendous range. Throw in a utility staff or two, like Warp or Freeze, and she can disrupt the enemy while moving her allies into advantageous positions just as easily as she keeps the team healthy.

It's worth noting that Micaiah provides the ability to wield a staff to any unit she is equipped to, which can be used to turn any unit into a competent healer and support unit if needed.

Jean + Tiki (DLC Required)

Fire Emblem Engage_Jean and Tiki

A very potent combo for the Early game is pairing up Jean with Tiki. Tiki's Draconic Form allows Jean access to powerful Dragon attacks that can help him deal with threats while also enhancing his stats.

The big draw here, however, is Starsphere. Starsphere enhances unit stat growth when leveling up, which stacks with Jean's Personal Skill, "Expertise," to give him some insanely strong stat growth that can quickly turn him into a tremendously powerful unit with very high stats for his level.

Fire Emblem Engage is available for Nintendo Switch.
