Final Fantasy XIV was released nine years ago and it was universally panned by critics and fans alike. Fortunately, in 2013 the game was rebooted, under the title A Realm Reborn, to considerably higher praise and since then the title has had a strong following. Despite this strong following, some will be surprised to hear that the game is about to have a life-span of at least three console generations.

Final Fantasy XIV is a huge MMORPG which brings players together on the world Hydaelyn. As is the case with most Final Fantasy games, there is a significant amount of story in a truly original world and Final Fantasy XIV has been consistently built upon with expansions for the game. British fans of the game were treated to the exciting announcement that the game will continue well into the next generation.

Director and rescuer of Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida, revealed that the game will be coming to the PlayStation 5. It is somewhat surprising that a game that had a negative reception is now looking to further its legacy nine years on. Yet the most recent Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Shadowbringers, has been one of Square Enix's most critically successful titles. Clearly, the game has put to right its previous shortcomings and the PS5 release is not the only console that the game will be coming to.
