Final Fantasy XIV was released nine years ago and it was universally panned by critics and fans alike. Fortunately, in 2013 the game was rebooted, under the title A Realm Reborn, to considerably higher praise and since then the title has had a strong following. Despite this strong following, some will be surprised to hear that the game is about to have a life-span of at least three console generations.
Final Fantasy XIV is a huge MMORPG which brings players together on the world Hydaelyn. As is the case with most Final Fantasy games, there is a significant amount of story in a truly original world and Final Fantasy XIV has been consistently built upon with expansions for the game. British fans of the game were treated to the exciting announcement that the game will continue well into the next generation.
Director and rescuer of Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida, revealed that the game will be coming to the PlayStation 5. It is somewhat surprising that a game that had a negative reception is now looking to further its legacy nine years on. Yet the most recent Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Shadowbringers, has been one of Square Enix's most critically successful titles. Clearly, the game has put to right its previous shortcomings and the PS5 release is not the only console that the game will be coming to.
It was recently confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV will be coming to the Xbox One. It appears that the game will be available for almost all to play in the future and this will surely excite players who want to experience a Final Fantasy game online. Furthermore, there will be a whole host of quality expansions for players to choose from when they do pick up the game.
Not only are there fantastic expansions, but the fan community have created some rare treats in Final Fantasy XIV that players will want to see. There is plenty for players to experience in this iteration of Final Fantasy and it is thanks to the hard work of Yoshida and the community that play the game. It seems that Final Fantasy XIV has defied the odds and will stand the test of time by spanning multiple generations of consoles and entertaining new and old players of the series. FFXIV coming to the Xbox One and the PS5 affirms the legacy of a game that has found its footing through trial and error.
Final Fantasy XIV is available now for PC and PS4.
