Ultimate Weapons have been a staple of the Final Fantasy series since the early nineties and so it should come as little surprise to learn that they also show up in Final Fantasy 10. There's one for every party member, although rather than Ultimate Weapons, they are instead referred to as Celestial  due to their connections with the solar system. They're still every bit as powerful though, albeit with a few frustrating conditions attached.

When players first acquire the weapons, they are fairly useless due to their complete lack of abilities. They can't be upgraded by conventional means either, with players instead needing to track down a crest and sigil for each one of them and then take them to a special spot in Macalania Woods to unlock their full potential. With their true powers finally awakened though, they become some of the very best weapons in the game and can be incredibly helpful for those hoping to take on some of the many powerful superbosses in Final Fantasy 10.

The Celestial Mirror

The Celestial Mirror is required to obtain several of the Celestial Weapons and is also used to power them up once players have acquired the relevant crests and sigils. Like the weapons themselves though, its true powers will need to be awakened before it becomes fully effective, meaning that players will have to jump through a few hoops before they can even begin collecting the Celestial Weapons.

How to obtain the Cloudy Mirror

Obtaining the Cloudy Mirror in Final Fantasy X

To obtain the Cloudy Mirror, players will need to make their way over towards Remiem Temple, which can be accessed via the Calm Lands. While riding a Chocobo, players should head to the southeast part of the area near the exit to Macalania Woods and then investigate the yellow feather on the ground to fly down to a lower level. Once there, interacting with the Chocobo that's over to the left of the temple's main entrance will allow players to take part in a Chocobo race and winning it will reward them with the Cloudy Mirror.

How to obtain the Celestial Mirror

Obtaining the Celestial Mirror in Final Fantasy X (1)

With the Cloudy Mirror in their possession, players should make their way over to Macalania woods and follow the winding path to the spot where a mother and child are standing. If players talk to the mother, she'll mention that her husband is missing, so players should head to the campsite area of the woods and speak with him so that he heads back over to his family. After doing so, if players return to the mother and speak to her twice, she'll inform them that her child is now missing, although he's thankfully not too far away.

Obtaining the Celestial Mirror in Final Fantasy X (2)

Immediately to the left of where the husband and wife are standing, players will see a crystal path and should follow this to the north and then take a left at the first intersection. Here, they'll find the missing child and, after speaking with him, will receive a prompt to use the Cloudy Mirror. Doing so will result in it being transformed into the Celestial Mirror. It's worth making a note of this location, as it is where players will need to come whenever they want to upgrade one of the Celestial Weapons.

The Caladbolg (Tidus)

Final Fantasy X Every Party Member Ranked According To Design Tidus

The Caladbolg is Tidus' Celestial Weapon and, like the rest of the Celestial Weapons, deals more damage the closer that its wielder is to their max HP. When fully upgraded, it can break the 9,999 damage limit, provides triple overdrive and allows Tidus to counter both physical and magic attacks, while occasionally evading the former as well.

How to obtain the Caladbolg

Obtaining the Caladbolg in Final Fantasy X

To get their hands on the Caladbolg, players should make their way over to the northwestern border of the Calm Lands and look for a small slope leading downwards. Initially, there'll be a man blocking the entrance, although defeating the Chocobo Trainer in the Catcher Chocobo race will cause the man to move. Upon their return, players will find a strange glyph at the bottom of the path and interacting with it while carrying the Celestial Mirror will reward players with the Caladbolg.

How to obtain the Sun Crest

Obtaining the Sun Crest in Final Fantasy X

The Sun Crest is located in a treasure chest in the area where players fight Lady Yunalesca at the Zanarkand Dome. It's highly recommended that players pick this up immediately after defeating Yunalesca, as returning later in the game will mean having to deal with Dark Bahamut in order to get to the chest. While it is possible to use Yojimbo's Zanmoto ability to defeat the Dark Aeon in a single hit, beating it properly without a fully powered up Caladbolg can be incredibly difficult.

How to obtain the Sun Sigil

Obtaining the Sun Sigil in Final Fantasy X (1)

To obtain the Sun Sigil, players will need to visit the Chocobo Trainer in the Calm Lands and complete all of the training exercises. The first three are simple enough, with players just needing to dodge the Blitzballs and birds and make it to the finish line within the target times. The Catcher Chocobo race that follows these exercises, however, can be pure hell.

Obtaining the Sun Sigil in Final Fantasy X (2)

Players will need to make it to the finish line ahead of the Chocobo Trainer whilst also collecting enough balloons along the way to bring their final time down to 0 or lower. Using the D-pad rather than the analogue stick can help a little, but it's largely just a case of practice makes perfect and so achieving the required time in this challenging mini-game will likely take players a fair few attempts. When they do finally pull it off though, they'll be given the Sun Sigil as a reward.

The Nirvana (Yuna)

Final Fantasy X Every Party Member Ranked According To Design Yuna

Yuna's Celestial Weapon is the Nirvana, an incredibly powerful rod that allows her to cast any spell for just one MP. It also provides the summoner with triple overdrive and double AP and allows both her and Valefore to break the 9,999 damage limit once it's been fully powered up.

How to obtain the Nirvana

Obtaining the Nirvana in Final Fantasy X

To obtain the Nirvana, players will need to go to the Monster Arena in the Calm Lands and agree to help the owner to recapture the escaped monsters. Thankfully, players will only need to focus on the nine enemy types found within the Calm Lands to get their hands on the Nirvana, so with enough running around and a little bit of luck, they should be able to do this in around 20 minutes. After they do, a chest containing the Nirvana will appear in front of the Monster Arena.

How to obtain the Moon Crest

Obtaining the Moon Crest in Final Fantasy X

Yuna's crest is one of the easiest to obtain in the entire game, with players simply needing to do a little bit of swimming to get their hands on it. First, they should head to the beach in Besaid and then wade out into the water near the save sphere through which they spawn into the area. From here, they'll need to swim around to the righ, where they'll find a chest containing the Moon Crest in the first of two small alcoves.

How to obtain the Moon Sigil

Obtaining the Moon Sigil in Final Fantasy X

Obtaining the Moon Sigil isn't particularly difficult, but it will take players a fair amount of time. They'll first need to obtain all eight of the game's Aeons and then return to Remiem temple and speak with Belgemine. At this point, players should have already defeated at least five of her Aeons in battle and so will only need to battle the other three, assuming they haven't already. After all eight have been defeated, Yuna will send Belgemine to the Farplane and will be rewarded with the Moon Sigil for her troubles.

The World Champion (Wakka)

Final Fantasy X Every Party Member Ranked According To Design Wakka

Wakka's Celestial Weapon is one of the most frustrating to power up as it can require playing an awful lot of Blitzball as well as a little bit of luck. At full power though, it's able to deal more than 9,999 damage, has the Evade & Counter ability and offers triple overdrive and double AP. Upgrading the weapon with the Jupiter Crest also allows Ifrit to break the damage limit, which can be useful for the battle against Dark Shiva if players choose to take on the Dark Aeons.

How to obtain the World Champion

Obtaining the World Champion in Final Fantasy X

To obtain the World Champion, players will need to complete at least one Blitzball tournament while finishing third or higher. After that, they'll need to talk to the woman behind the counter at the Luca cafe. If they have it in their possession, she'll ask players to show her the Celestial Mirror and should then hand over the World Champion after looking at it. If she doesn't, players will need to win a few more Blitzball games and then return and try again.

How to obtain the Jupiter Crest

Obtaining the Jupiter Crest in Final Fantasy X

Players will be able to acquire the Jupiter Crest at any point after finishing the story related Blitzball tournament. They'll need to make their way to the Besaid Aurochs' locker room, which can be accessed via the upper-right hand hallway that branches off from the main lobby. Once inside the locker room, players can find the crest stashed away in one of the lockers.

How to obtain the Jupiter Sigil

Obtaining the Jupiter Sigil in Final Fantasy X (1)

To get their hands on the Jupiter Sigil, players will first need to win all three of Wakka's Overdrives by emerging victorious from two or more Blitzball tournaments and at least one league season. Thankfully, it's possible to enter and exit the Blitzball menu until either the Attack Reels or the Auroch Reels show up as a tournament prize to speed things up a little. To get the league prize to reset for the Status Reels though, players will instead need to completely reset the Blitzball data.

Obtaining the Jupiter Sigil in Final Fantasy X (2)

Once all three overdrives have been acquired, the Jupiter Sigil will have a 50% chance of showing up as the next league prize and so players can either complete league seasons or reset the data until it does and then win the league to finally get their hands on the sigil. It's highly recommended to keep an eye on contract lengths while all of this is going on, as having to recruit the best Blitzball players again after their contracts expire can be a real nightmare.

The Masamune (Auron)

Final Fantasy X Every Party Member Ranked According To Design Auron

The Masamune has always been one of the strongest weapons found throughout the Final Fantasy series and that is once again the case in Final Fantasy 10. When fully powered up with the Mars Crest and Sigil, Auron's weapon can break the damage limit, provides him with triple overdrive and offers both the First Strike and Counter-Attack abilities. Upgrading it with the Mars Crest also allows Yojimbo to break the damage limit.

How to obtain the Masamune

Obtaining the Rusty Sword in Final Fantasy X

Before players can get the Masamune, they'll first need to pick up the Rusty Sword, which means heading over towards the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth. For those who've never been there, it can be found in a gorge in the northern area of the Calm Lands. The sword itself is stuck in the ground near the entrance of the cavern and players will need to interact with it in order to add it to their inventory.

Obtaining the Masamune in Final Fantasy X

With the Rusty Sword now in hand, players should make their way to the statue of Lord Mi'ihen slaying a Behemoth at the Djose end of the Mushroom Rock Road, being sure not to get too close to the ominous looking summoners on the main path as they make their way there. Upon arriving at the statue, players will be need to use the Rusty Sword when prompted to reveal a nearby glyph. Using the Celestial Mirror after examining the glyph will add the Masamune to their inventory.

How to obtain the Mars Crest

Obtaining the Mars Crest in Final Fantasy X

To get the Mars Crest, players should make their way to the Mi'ihen Highroad travel agency and then rent a Chocobo from the woman outside. They'll need to head north from there and then follow the path further north for two more screens. Upon their arrival in the next area, they should head left and then immediately take the path that leads southeast to get onto the Old Road. It's then just a case of following the path south until they arrive at the chest containing the Mars Crest.

How to obtain the Mars Sigil

Obtaining the Mars Sigil in Final Fantasy X

To get their hands on the Mars Sigil, players will need to complete a combination of ten area or species conquests for the Monster Arena owner. This means capturing at least one of every type of enemy found in a particular area or one of every enemy from a specific species of monsters ten times. After doing so, speaking with the owner of the Monster Arena will reward players with the Mars Sigil.

The Onion Knight (Lulu)

Final Fantasy X Lulu Promotional Image

Lulu's Onion Knight offers the same 1 MP cost ability as Yuna's Celestial Weapon, while also granting access to the powerful Magic Booster ability. When combined with Lulu's high stats and the weapon's ability to break the damage limit when fully powered up, it helps to cement Lulu's place as the game's very best black mage. The weapon also offers triple overdrive and allows Shiva to break the damage limit once fully powered up.

How to obtain the Onion Knight

Obtaining the Onion Knight in Final Fantasy X

Players will be able to obtain the Onion Knight once they have gained access to the airship. After doing so, they'll need to speak with Cid and enter the coordinates X=11-16, Y=57-63 in order to travel to the Baaj Temple. Upon their arrival, players should dive into the water and defeat the Geosgaeno boss that showed up near the beginning of the game. Doing so will cause a chest containing the Godhand to appear, although players will need the Celestial Mirror in order to open it.

How to obtain the Venus Crest

Obtaining the Venus Crest in Final Fantasy X

The Venus Crest is locked away inside a chest at the Farplane in Guadosalom. It won't be there on the player's first visit, but upon returning, they'll be able to find it over to the left of the rocky platform that overlooks the Farplane itself. It can be a little tricky to spot at first, but if players know where to look, it shouldn't be too hard to find. Lulu can also be seen talking to Lady Ginnem over on the right if players have acquired Yojimbo, although they don't need to interact with either character in any way to get the crest.

How to obtain the Venus Sigil

Obtaining the Venus Sigil in Final Fantasy X

To obtain the Venus Sigil, players will need to make their way to the Thunder Plains and then dodge 200 consecutive lightning bolts. Armor with the No Encounters ability can make this considerably easier, as too can turning down the volume and focusing on the flash of the lightning rather than the sound of the thunder. Once 200 bolts have finally been dodged without the player being hit, a chest containing the Sigil and some other items will appear in front of the nearby travel agency.

The Godhand (Rikku)

Final Fantasy X Every Party Member Ranked According To Design Rikku

Rikku's Celestial Weapon is arguably one of the weakest in the game, although it can be useful for those looking to farm Gil for potential Zanmoto uses. This is because the Godhand has access to the Gillionaire ability, which doubles the amount of Gil obtained at the end of a battle. It also provides double AP and triple overdrive and can break the damage limit once fully powered up.

How to obtain the Godhand

Obtaining the Godhand in Final Fantasy X

To find Rikku's Godhand, players simply need to enter "GODHAND" into the airship's password screen, ensuring that each letter is capitalized. This will add a new area near Mushroom Rock Road to the airship's destination list and, upon travelling there, players will find a chest containing the Godhand at the far side of the area. As with some of the other chests containing Celestial Weapons though, they'll need the Celestial Mirror in their inventory in order to open it.

How to obtain the Mercury Crest

Obtaining the Mercury Crest in Final Fantasy X

The Mercury Crest is in a chest that can be found in a sand pit in the final area of the Bikanel Desert. The pit itself is in a small alcove over on the western side of the area near some debris and a few similar shifting sand pits. For those having trouble finding it, it's best to just follow the western boundary until arriving at the pit or simply look for a spot that's sticking out a little on the mini map.

How to obtain the Mercury Sigil

Obtaining the Mercury Sigil in Final Fantasy X (1)

The Mercury Sigil is also found in the final area of the Bikanel Desert, although getting to it is going to require quite a bit more legwork. Near an area with lots of cacti down below, players will find a stone with a picture of a Cactuar on it and interacting with it will initiate a Cactuar hunting mini-game. There are ten of them in total and each one will reward players with a glowing orb which must be returned to the Cactuar stone after players have acquired it.

Obtaining the Mercury Sigil in Final Fantasy X (2)

All of them are pretty easy to find, with the exception, perhaps, of the penultimate Cactuar which shows up on the top deck of the airship. For extra loot, players should only approach the Cactuar while their backs are turned, although being spotted won't have any impact on whether or not the sigil shows up. With all ten found, players will be able to travel down into the cactus valley behind the stone and will find the Mercury Sigil in a chest near one of the cacti.

The Spirit Lance (Kimahri)

Kimahri's Spirit Lance is fairly simple to acquire and ins't too difficult to power up either. Once players have done the latter, it's able to break the damage limit, provides triple overdrive and double AP and gains access to the Evade & Counter ability. Powering the Spirit Lance up with the Saturn Crest also allows Ixion to break the damage limit, which can be useful for battles against enemies that are weak to lightning.

How to obtain the Spirit Lance

Obtaining the Spirit Lance in Final Fantasy X

To obtain the Spirit Lance, players need to make their way over to the Thunder Plains and read the text about Gandof and the Quactuars at the travel agency there. After doing so, they'll need to find the three Quactuar stones that are scattered around the area and pray in front of them all once while they are glowing green. This will make the spectral Quactuar show up in the southern area of the Thunder Plains and players can follow it over to a broken lightning tower to the east. Praying in front of this tower will cause it to be struck by lightning multiple times and the Spirit Lance will then appear.

How to obtain the Saturn Crest

Obtaining the Saturn Crest in Final Fantasy X

The Saturn Crest is in a chest near the peak of Mt. Gagazet. It's just past the spot where players fight Seymour Flux in a passageway that's lined with eight large stone pillars. The chest is out of view behind the pillars on the left and can be found with a little trial and error or some crafty camera manipulation. For those having trouble finding it though, its exact position is between the second and third pillars from the save sphere to the north.

How to obtain the Saturn Sigil

Obtaining the Saturn Sigil in Final Fantasy X

After obtaining the airship, players can take on two butterfly hunting mini-games in Macalania Woods. There's one in each area and players will need to touch all seven of the blue butterflies while avoiding the red ones before the time limit runs out to complete them. After finishing the second one, a chest containing the Saturn Sigil will appear in front of a nearby tree. If players accidentally exit the area before opening it, they'll need to complete the second mini-game once more in order to make the chest reappear.
