Universal Studios released the first trailer for its Final Fantasy XR ride, an attraction appearing at the park's Japan location for a limited time.

From January 19 until June 24, park guests can experience an original Final Fantasy-themed VR ride similar to Universal's other VR attractions, like those found in the popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The major difference being that Final Fantasy XR is temporary, taking over the Space Fantasy attraction for its limited run.

There has been little to no promotion for the ride outside of Japan, for obvious reasons, but even when it was announced a while back, there wasn't a lot of information on the attraction. The new trailer has been much more enlightening, revealing key details as to what guests can expect from the experience.

First off, the ride doesn't take place strictly in the world of Final Fantasy 7, though its early promotional material implied otherwise. Images and a teaser trailer on the park's website last year showcased a battle between Final Fantasy 7 protagonist Cloud and arch-nemesis Sephiroth, which led many to believe Final Fantasy XR would only take place in that title's universe.

On the contrary, the trailer implies that many of the games in the main series will make an appearance in some way or another. According to the trailer's description, riders will board a flying contraption piloted by the adorable Moogles in search of a crystal. Along the way, they will revisit familiar scenes from past Final Fantasy games, encounter popular monsters like Cactuar, and fly alongside a group of Chocobos, where their perky theme song is hopefully playing in the background.

Universal Studios is currently working on another high-profile video game collaboration. Two years ago, Universal announced a partnership with Nintendo that will bring Nintendo-themed rides and attractions to all of its parks worldwide, starting with Japan.

The project will add an entire Super Mario World to the parks, which will be comprised of multilevel environments packed with rides, shops, and restaurants. It will also be populated by characters from the Super Mario series. After the groundbreaking ceremony last year, it was announced that a Mario Kart experience would be a key part of Super Mario World.
