Though modern Final Fantasy games render characters in 3D with gorgeous visuals, the franchise started out with more humble beginnings. 2D pixelated sprites represented the heroes at first, and many fans are fond of these nostalgic designs. Pixel art is still a very popular medium for art, and it just so happens that Minecraft is perfect for accomodating this style. The blocky materials players have to work with is exactly what a pixel artist needs, and Redditor jym555178 shows this excellently. They've managed to recreate the original Red Mage sprite in game with stunning accuracy.

For those that aren't familiar with the various jobs in Final Fantasy, Red Mages are a stylish option that act as a jack of all trades. They are capable of excelling with physical attacks but can also cast both restorative White Magic and destructive Black Magic. Their signature red robes and feathered hat are replicated here in Minecraft.

Redditor jym555178 has made a portrait of the Red Mage in Minecraft, using several different kinds of materials to represent the various colors and textures. From the looks of it, the robes are made with red wool, while the white feather and the Red Mage's hair are made of white wool. The background of the portrait is black, although it's too difficult to tell if the material is black wool, obsidian, or something else entirely. Another kind of block is used to represent the Red Mage's skin, which is potentially sand or some kind of smooth stone.

This build was made on creative mode, but something like this would be totally possible in survival. The hardest part would likely be collecting all of the materials, but from there it could just be built from the ground up. The process would be very similar if players wanted to make other Final Fantasy jobs in Minecraft, although they would obviously need different colors and materials.

As technology advanced, Final Fantasy sprites got more and more detailed. In order to acccurately replicate some of the newer sprites, a player would need way more blocks. It might be interesting to see a collection of pixel art representing various jobs from the early games, or perhaps a set showing off one job in various different forms. This is the first major Minecraft art that jym555178 has posted online, but after the positive reception this one received there may well be more in the future. It's definitely worth keeping an eye out for.
