The Final Fantasy series is renowned for its engaging stories, charming characters, and frightening enemies. Though each game in the series is completely separate from its other installments, several enemies have made multiple appearances throughout the franchise. For the most part, the enemies that appear throughout the Final Fantasy saga are chosen due to their amazing designs, but not every design is without flaw.

Being a fantasy game allows the developers involved in each title to experiment with the designs of its enemies, often resulting in the most ridiculous enemy encounters a gamer can experience. The influence of the fantasy genre can be so encompassing that the impractical nature of many enemies is often overlooked.

10 Demon Wall

The Demon Wall is a recurring enemy in the Final Fantasy series that can easily decimate a player's party if they are unprepared. The Demon Wall often disguises itself as a blank wall or a statue before coming to life and attacking the party.

While facing the Demon Wall in Final Fantasy 12, the player is forced to dispatch the enemy as quickly as they can before the wall crushes them. It is an intimidating gimmick, but if the player were to encounter the Demon Wall in an open area, they could simply step to the side, rendering its approach ineffective.

9 Cactuar

The Cactuar design is one of the most iconic enemy designs in the Final Fantasy series. The Cactuar, in the majority of its appearances, is a small cactus-like creature that can only move at abrupt 45-degree angles. They are renowned for their speed and lethal attacks.

Though one of the most popular traits associated with the Cactuar is its incredible speed, the way it moves would suggest that its agility is lacking. Though they can move their limbs at blinding rates, it would be impossible for them to utilize this ability for traversal, due to the limiting angles their limbs are confined to move in.

8 Tonberry

The design of a Tonberry is a deceptively cute one, considering the danger it poses to the player. If one is unfortunate to encounter a Tonberry on their travels, they may be taken aback by the creature's ability to completely demolish its enemies with its tiny knife.

The Tonberry has become an iconic enemy due to its unsuspectingly vicious demeanor, but it should pose little threat to the player. The Tonberry is an incredibly small and slow creature that takes its time approaching its enemies, allowing ample time for the player to escape. If by some miracle the Tonberry reaches its prey, the party member could simply pick the creature up and toss them aside.

7 Spherimorph

Spherimorph is a fiend fought in Macalania Woods during Final Fantasy 10. It is a circular, water-based enemy that floats slightly above the ground on which it is fought. Though it has a few powerful spells in its arsenal, its design renders it nothing more than a brief nuisance.

When Spherimorph is not casting magic at its foes, it is assaulting them with physical attacks. Though these attacks can be lethal to an unsuspecting party, the threat is diminished if players approach the fight logically. Spherimorph is made entirely of water, so all one would need to negate this enemy's attacks would be an umbrella, or perhaps patience as the wait for the creature to slowly evaporate.

6 Phantom Train

The Phantom Train made its first appearance in Final Fantasy 6. To fight the locomotive, the player was forced to traverse its carriages as a means of advancing to the front of the train. Its main objective in the game was to transport the souls of the dead to the afterlife.

There are many ludicrously designed bosses throughout the Final Fantasy series, but the Phantom Train may be the most bizarre so far. Though the fight with this track-bound foe is engaging, if one chose to simply step out of the Phantom Train's way, this haunted tank engine would no longer pose the threat it once did.

5 Hell House

The Hell House is an enemy that could once be encountered randomly in Final Fantasy 7, but has since been given its own boss battle in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Supposedly, the Hell House would pose as a normal house to lure in unsuspecting victims dwelling in the slums of Midgar.

The Hell House, upon first glance, appears to be nothing more than a standard suburban home, but what dwells inside it is the pinnacle of evil. Though the battle with the Hell House is nothing short of a spectacle, its design is far from practical.

4 Floating Eye

The Floating Eye enemy, who appears in Final Fantasy 10, is a recurring enemy in the series. Its design remains mostly the same throughout each installment in which it appears. It is a one-eyed, winged creature with an orb-shaped body.

These winged Mike Wazowskis can inflict a variety of status effects on the player's party, but that is the extent of their power. The size of the eye is the most obvious weak point present in the entire series. If the player had the option to throw a weapon at the creature's eye, all threats exhibited by it would be made redundant.

3 Mover

Mover is one of the rarest enemies present in Final Fantasy 7. It can appear in the Northern Cave and grants a great deal of experience to the player upon defeat.

The Mover might be the most simplistic enemy design seen throughout the entirety of the Final Fantasy series. In appearance, it seems to be nothing more than a red beach ball, so if encountered in the real world, the most effective means of dealing with it would be to bounce it away.

2 Chimera

The Chimera is an enemy made up of multiple creatures, each of which possesses a unique ability. The Chimera's appearance in Final Fantasy 10 gave the creature three different animal heads and a tail with a snake protruding from behind.

This amalgamation of different fiends allows the Chimera to be extremely versatile in combat situations, but four separate identities existing in one body would surely lead to some disagreements. Though the Chimera is an efficient fighter, its design would suggest it is constantly fighting battles with both the player and itself.

1 YKT-11

The YKT-11 enemy is a machina weapon used by Bevelle during the war against Zanarkand. It is a strong example of the powerful properties Machina can have if manufactured for combat.

The YKT-11's most intimidating feature is its ability to eject a party member from the fight by using a move known as "Thrust Kick." It can be observed hopping perpetually on one leg during combat. Though it is nothing short of a powerhouse, one strong breeze could easily exploit its design flaw.
