There are very few games in the Final Fantasy franchise that one could call bad. Some may not be as good as others, but many still standout among their RPG brethren. That said, there are games in the franchise that need to get re-exposed.

They may still be good on the console they came out on, but newer ports, or remasters, or even remakes might do them more good. Then there are other games that again, are not bad, but don’t need any more attention paid to them. With Final Fantasy VII Remake out now and the remaster of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on the way, it’s a good a time as any to talk about these ideas.

10 Remake It: Final Fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VI has been ported numerous times, the best of which was on the Game Boy Advance. However, it has never really been remade. It still remains a classic and easy to pick up and play for any generation of RPG fan today.

That said as one of the golden titles in the franchise fans hold dearest, some kind of remake would be nice.

9 Leave It: Final Fantasy II

Final Fantasy II has its fans as well, but they are few and far between. The game is not bad by any means, but it is certainly toward the bottom if one were to rank the main entries.

The oddball mechanics on how to level up characters is what really holds it back. It shouldn’t be forgotten, but it also doesn’t need a remake.

8 Remake It: Final Fantasy Tactics

Final Fantasy Tactics is in desperate need of either a remake, or more importantly, a sequel. Maybe a remake of this classic would revitalize interest.

Anyway, the point is whatever is done to the series, this game is one of the best tactical RPGs ever made and remains a template to everything that has come after it. This includes games from Square Enix along with other companies. It deserves more than a phone port.

7 Leave It: Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings

Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings also takes place in the spinoff universe of Ivalice. As the name suggests it is a sequel to Final Fantasy XII for the DS, which has never been ported since. It remains trapped on the handheld which is okay.

The RTS tactics may work better on more modern consoles, or PCs thus improving things, but it also wasn’t that great to begin with.

6 Remake It: Before Crisis Final Fantasy VII

If ever there was a time to remake this game it would be now. This was a Japanese exclusive turn-based RPG for mobile devices. It was a prequel to the events of Final Fantasy VII which explored the deeper backstory between The Turks and AVALANCHE.

It’s time to find out the truth, which has been hidden away for over a decade now.

5 Leave It: Dirge of Cerberus Final Fantasy VII

Of the games in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, Dirge of Cerberus was the weakest. Sure, the idea of a game starring Vincent in the aftermath of the main game was enticing.

However, it wanted to be Devil May Cry, but didn’t come close to the Capcom classic in execution. The story even wasn’t that interesting so if this was remade it would take a lot of work.

4 Remake It: Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII

This was actually the best game in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. It doesn’t even need that much work as it still looks great on PSP.

That’s the problem though. It’s stuck on PSP. A quick remastered port to modern consoles would be more than enough to satisfy fans, but then again, a remake would make them sing their praises even higher.

3 Leave It: Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

Next to Final Fantasy II, this is the oddest game on the list. It’s more like a Dragon Quest game what with the perspective in battle.

It’s not bad. In fact it’s still quite fun and the music is as excellent as most games in the series. That said, it’s fine just being a classic SNES game.

2 Remake It: Final Fantasy V

Like Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy V is also a game that has not had much work done to it. The Game Boy Advance version is the best and the mobile version is just an insult.

If both Final Fantasy VI and this could at least get the treatment that Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV got on the DS, with simple polygonal graphics and voices, well, that should be enough to make the fans happy.

1 Leave It: Final Fantasy Explorers

There needs to be more multiplayer games in the franchise. This game, which tried to be Monster Hunter on 3DS, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles were the two big attempts.

The latter of the two, as it was mentioned earlier, is getting a remaster, but there are still two more games in that sub-franchise. While those two and this may get more traction on modern consoles with a remake or remaster, it might be better to just leave them alone and make a sequel for either instead.
