The Final Fantasy series has been around for a long time, and with games from five different decades, many developers have worked on the series. One of the most influential of these creators was Hironobu Sakaguchi, and recently, he decided to play through Final Fantasy 14.

A Japanese game designer, Sakaguchi was famous for his work with Final Fantasy. As the creator of the first Final Fantasy in 1987, his influence has had an indelible impact on the franchise. Despite moving on from the series nearly two decades ago, that doesn’t mean that he has lost his love for Final Fantasy. In fact, it appears that he has become hooked on one of the more recent installments in the series he helped spawn.

Sakaguchi began playing through Final Fantasy 14 a couple of weeks ago, and since then, the developer can’t get enough of the classic MMO. He has made significant progress since he tweeted that he had started playing through the game. In only a few days, “the father of Final Fantasy” completed the Heavensward expansion for Final Fantasy 14. As the first major expansion for the game, it was an impressive feat for Sakaguchi to clear the content, including the many cutscenes, in such a short period.

He is currently going through the second expansion pack known as Stormblood. Those interested in following Sakaguchi's progress through the MMO should check out his Twitter account. There, he posts regular screenshots from the game, along with comments on his play-through. However, most of these tweets are in Japanese.

Based on the amount of time Sakaguchi has already put into the MMO, it appears that he is loving his return to the world he created decades ago. While his last involvement with the series was X-2 in 2003, many of the designs he worked on from past games make an updated return in Final Fantasy 14. As Sakaguchi seems to be thoroughly enjoying this play-through, it will be interesting to see if he decides to try another modern Final Fantasy once he completes his current MMO. With his play-through updates typically getting thousands of likes on Twitter, it seems that his fans are excited to see whatever he chooses to play in the future.

Besides this news regarding Sakaguchi’s play-through, another fan has developed an innovative way to play Final Fantasy 14. Known as SuperLouis 64, this gamer decided to run through Eorzea using a Ring Fit controller for charity. As these play-throughs suggest, even 11 years after it was first released, fans of Final Fantasy 14 are still finding enjoyment out of playing the MMO.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
