In a series that's been around for so long, Final Fantasy's arsenal of weapons has grown over the decades. It is an arsenal that has been built for the multiple gigantic monsters that players have to battle through to get through the story. The last half of most titles include some of the most powerful weapons in the RPG world.

Finding the very top of the power charts gets a little murky, with certain weapons able to do better in different circumstances. However, the truly powerful are able to deliver big damage without any supporting items, taking out the most daunting bosses with a few swings and looking good doing it.

15 Final Fantasy - Masmune

discovering the masamune katana

Having the highest attack stat in the game, Masmune is the clear choice for anyone wanting to filet through enemies. The blade can also be equipped by every character in the players team, giving it a distinct advantage to other weapons at the top of the list.

Getting the sword will be a little more challenging, having to brave the final floor in the Temple Of Fiend is no cake walk. Luckily, the weapon hierarchy is very clear in the original game, giving players a straight shot to the most powerful weapon in the game.

14 Final Fantasy II - Blood Sword

Emperor Boss battle

At first glance this sword looks like one of the worst weapons in the game, 0 stats across the board except for a 100 magic penalty. This will turn the research evasive fans off and draw them towards a high attack weapon. The fact is that the Blood Sword can easily become the biggest damage dealer in the game by far, it just depends on what enemy is attacking.

Normal enemies will make this sword look weak, taking away only 1/16 of their measly health bar. However, when it comes to boss fights, 1/16 becomes a massive number. Only 2 Blood Swords can be found, on level B4 of Castle Fynn or in the secret room of Fynn sanctuary.

13 Final Fantasy III - Ultima Weapon

Bahamut Boss

Another sword that's well known in the Final Fantasy community, it is only given to those Ninjas who have completely masters their job and reached level 99. Adding 15 points to every stat, it's boost covers all important aspects of the character.

Having the unique quality of levelling with the player, this sword is easily the most powerful weapon in the end game. Doubling the level for attack power and adding 50 to the accuracy, it gives the players a choice as to how much power they want to wield.

To obtain the sword players will have to give a Red Tail to the Tail Collector and equip it to Cecil or Kaine. Though it's not always the beast of the title, the Onion Sword's potential reaches far beyond the rest of the arsenal.

11 Final Fantasy V - Ragnarok

end game battle ff4

The original release's Ultimate Sword, Ragnarok's godly vibe comes with a whopping 140 attack power that makes other swords look puny in comparison. Having to go up against one of the two superbosses in Shinryu to get ahold of it, players will only get to enjoy this weapon in the end game.

The onyl other way is facing the games final boss, Neo Exdeath, and stealing the weapon from the back. Even this only has a 3.9% chance of working, making players spend a lot of time in a dangerous battle for the runic blade.

10 Final Fantasy VI - Lightbringer

Coliseum battle

Lightbringer trumps the previous games weapon by forcing players to bet Ragnarok in the Dragon's Neck Coliseum, the ultimate put down. The best part about Lightbringer is it's random chance of casting the Holy spell for additional damage, not even considering the automatic critical hits it already possesses.

Moving away from swords and axes, Final Fantasy VII moves into the modern era. Carrying gunblades and shotguns instead, the damage base is much different when the weapons can shoot upon impact.

6 Final Fantasy X - Caladbolg

Caladbolg Celestial Weapon

Ignoring the defense stat when attacking is a big advantage to all the Celestial weapons but Caladbolg makes the best use of it. Calculating damage from the users current and maximum HP, it's another weapon with far more potential under the right conditions.

Before the damage totals start being tallied up, players will have to beat the Chocobo Trainer in the Dark Lands, beating them will give you access to the best Celestial weapon in the game.

5 Final Fantasy XI - Chant Du Sygne

FFX duel

This is a weapon with a condition, its numbers are very low when compared to some of the best weapons if the character doesn't have high dexterity. As soon as that stat is taken care of players are off to the races, dealing the all around best Weapon Skills damage in the game.

Though some of the other weapons can string together combinations, the Zodiac Spear can match almost all top tier weapons with single strikes.

3 Final Fantasy XIII - Save The Queen

FF XIII bare hands battle

The only item on the list that isn't an actual weapon, Save The Queen is an emblem that will attack to Snow and lend its power to his physical attacks. Maxing out at 717 strength isn't the very tip of the spear in power, it's the additional benefits of boosting overall power and ATB capacity.

The weapons that surpass it in raw power have setbacks that hinder gameplay, this emblem is all positives. No room for hitches when the character is fighting with bare fists.

2 Final Fantasy XIV - Edenchoir Bastard Sword

FFXIV sword profile

Statistically there's no arguing with this swords superior numbers, coming in at 128 damage with the best Critical hit increase in the title. Anyone looking for some serious help in the end game will be hunting for the Edenchoir.

Every stat but Determination is surpassed by a long shot, giving players assurance that they hold the best sword in the game.
