Final Fantasy 7: First Soldier is an upcoming Final Fantasy 7-based battle royale game announced by Square Enix back in February of this year. Since then, the title has gone through a closed-beta stage, providing Square Enix with the feedback necessary to improve it before they officially release the game worldwide. Now, it seems that the publisher is almost done making the appropriate changes, as it just provided fans with an official release window.

Said window comes by way of the 2021 Tokyo Game Show, where Square Enix delivered progress reports on several of their upcoming titles, including, of course, Final Fantasy 7: First Soldier, which the publisher talked about in detail. For instance, beyond the release window, Square mentioned that controller support was the most requested feature from First Soldier's closed-beta feedback, so fans can expect it to appear in the final product. Square hopes it'll help make the game as close to a home console experience as possible.

As for the release window itself, Square Enix has Final Fantasy 7: First Soldier scheduled to come out sometime in November 2021, next month. Meanwhile, pre-registration for the game will open up sometime this month. Unfortunately, despite all the details Square Enix imparted about First Soldier during the 2021 Tokyo Game Show, it didn't give an exact release date for either the official release or pre-registration.

The lack of specificity regarding the dates is a little concerning, considering how close the title's release window is to the present day. That said, the publisher did state during the Tokyo Game Show that it has more frequent updates planned for Final Fantasy 7 First Soldier as the game's release date approaches. So, with that in mind, the exact dates for both the official release and pre-registration should be coming relatively soon — Square just opted not to reveal them during the game show for some reason.

That aside, the Tokyo Game Show announcements for Final Fantasy 7: First Soldier really just solidified the title as a battle royale with a Final Fantasy 7 twist. As it stands, Square doesn't really plan for the game to be a Final Fantasy 7 prequel. Three undisclosed characters related to the story will appear, but the game itself doesn't have a story to tell. Depending on the First Soldier's overall success, though, that can change, as the game certainly has everything it needs to make an interesting prequel.
