When Square Enix drops a Final Fantasy 7 trailer, it is meticulously organized to show only specific characters, gameplay, and moments from the story, most of which are from early portions of the game. They rarely touch on the full scope of the title, leaving some fans feeling unsatisfied as they wait for their favorite parts to be showcased. The wait is surely over for many of them, as the game's latest trailer is loaded with things fans have been asking for.

In the wee hours of the morning, Square Enix dropped an unexpected trailer for audiences to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of Final Fantasy 7. It is absolutely jam-packed with content. It opens with the water tower scene where Cloud confides in Tifa his dream of being a SOLDIER. From there, the nearly four-minute trailer takes viewers on a ride through some very iconic moments from the game, including the first confrontation with Sephiroth.

What the trailer has in spades is glimpses at characters that haven't been shown previously. Myriad members of the Shinra Company, for example, make their debut through various new scenes. Audiences will get to see how Reeve, Scarlet, Palmer, and Professor Hojo appear and sound in the remake. Audiences also get an extended look at the Honey Bee Inn scene with a cross-dressing Cloud. But the highlight for many will likely be the first legit look at Red XIII, outside of images ripped from the leaked demo, whose introduction scene is briefly shown in the trailer.

The tail end of the trailer is brimming with action and gameplay, featuring battles within the Shinra building on the team's mission to rescue Aerith and the thrilling motorcycle chase that follows. There are looks at the Chocobo & Moogle and the Leviathan summons, and the gang's first fight with Jenova∙BIRTH.

This is an excellent move by Square Enix, as it will satisfy a lot of fans who have been anxiously waiting for new content to be shown. These feelings have been much more heightened since the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was delayed and pushed back another month. The delay was announced mid-January and was attributed to a need by development to give the game some extra polish to make it a better experience. If the trailer is any indication, Square Enix is putting a lot of love into this project, so the additional time can only help it.

Since the remake is episodic, there is a lot of speculation as to what the delay could mean for Episode 2. It may be the unfamiliarity with Unreal Engine 4, which the game runs on, that's to blame. If so, then this could mean it is taking time to get comfortable with the engine. However, as the development team does, the time between episode releases may be shortened. At least that's what everyone is hoping.

The delay hasn't caused too many issues, aside from frustration from gamers who were planning to play in a little over a month. There is one specific concern, however. Those that pre-ordered the title through the Square Enix store may be at risk of losing their pre-orders. The company has requested that they reconfirm their order as soon as possible.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is set to release on April 10th, 2020, exclusively for PS4.
