There was a lot of nervous excitement leading up to the release of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, as fans of the beloved PlayStation classic waited to see if a remake could capture the same magic the original did back in 1997. The game certainly delivered, creating a living, breathing Midgar and adding in just the right touches to make the game feel familiar yet fresh. It was one of the best RPGs of 2020, and amidst all the hype and marketing, a series of figures were scheduled to release with the game, but only now is Tifa's statue finally on the way.

Tifa is an integral part of the narrative of Final Fantasy 7, and a fan favorite. As Cloud's childhood friend, Tifa has insights on Cloud no one else knows, and because of that, is a strong emotional support for the somewhat troubled protagonist. She also kicks butt, which makes it a shame that a chapter with Tifa in a lead role was cut from the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Fans would have loved the opportunity to follow Tifa around for a while, dropping enemies left and right.

The figure of Tifa, coming from Square Enix's own Play Arts Kai figure brand, is finally available after months of delays pushed this, and other figures in the collection, back into 2021. A number of the other Final Fantasy 7 Remake cast members have their figures' release dates staggered throughout 2021.

The Play Arts Kai Tifa stands 12" tall (30cm) and is posable, something that makes the figure a bit unique. With well-made joints, figure Tifa can be set in an action pose, and comes with a few interchangeable pieces, like hands and hair, to customize the look. Fans have taken to figures of their favorite characters over the years, and most major video game properties—particularly franchises from Japanese developers—will see some kind of figure or figures released alongside a new game. Persona 5's Makoto has a figure that is already drawing a lot of attention, and Tifa is also selling out quickly.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is going to be a long-term project for Square Enix. This is likely not the last time fans will be able to purchase a Tifa figure. The PS5 release of FF7R is on the way, with bonus Yuffie content exclusive to the release, and fans are ready to dive back into Midgar as the materia hunter. The Remake has already shifted the narrative to some degree, so fans are going to be waiting with bated breath to see what direction it goes next. Hopefully a Tifa-centric chapter is in the cards.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available now for PS4, with the PS5 version available on June 10th.
