So far, fans have gotten to see Ifrit, Shiva, and even the DLC Summons in action. Now Final Fantasy 7 Remake is teasing another fan-favorite in Leviathan.

For any newcomers, the Leviathan is a Summon based off of the mythical monster of the same name. It's a giant sea serpent that specializes in dealing water-damage through its signature move "Tidal Wave" or "Tsunami." In the original Final Fantasy 7, Leviathan was one of the few ways players could inflict water-damage, which made it very useful throughout the game.

The tease for this behemoth comes in the form of a small clip from FF7 Remake's official Twitter account. It shows the Leviathan breaching the surface of the ocean to attack what looks like a mechanized enemy. The clip's length doesn't allow it to reveal anything more than that, however, so it more or less just serves to announce the Summon to viewers and show off the animation of one of its attacks.

FF7 Remake's new combat system should provide some impressive visuals for Leviathan. In Remake, Summons stick around for limited periods, moving and helping the player autonomously in various ways. However, this giant serpent decides to pull that off should make for some showy and powerful support.

The fact that Final Fantasy 7 Remake's setting will stick exclusively to Midgar makes most of the Summons revealed so far rather interesting, though. In the original game, Cloud and the gang didn't receive their first Summon until after they left Midgar behind for the first time. But now that Ifrit, Shiva, and Leviathan will be usable in Remake, returning players will be able to look forward to discovering the new locations where they'll find each of them.

The Leviathan's appearance could also mean that another fan-favorite character could be returning. In the original Fantasy Fantasy 7, the great ninja Yuffie was the one to obtain it for the party. Yuffie was one of the playable characters that joined Cloud's adventure after he and his friends left Midgar.

With that in mind, it's admittedly unlikely that Yuffie would make an appearance, however. The Leviathan as a Summon is one thing, but Yuffie is another. If Square Enix felt that there wasn't enough time in the game to make Red XIII a playable character, it certainly didn't take the time to recreate Yuffie. Maybe the game will feature a secret ending she can appear in instead.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will launch on April 10, 2020, for the PlayStation 4.
