Many fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the remade Final Fantasy 7, despite the various Square Enix delays that pushed it and other games back a short time span. Yet players may appreciate the extra time to finish their current games if the leaked file size of the game is correct. While it isn't unusual for big titles to have large files, this is a particularly huge one.

Final Fantasy 7 was originally released over twenty years ago in 1997 on the PlayStation. Like most of the Final Fantasy games, this installment operates in high-concept fiction that gives players an immersive role-playing experience. The game was one of the most acclaimed of its generation and was a commercial success, with its accolades it picked up a huge number of fans. The remake looks to bring new fans to the JRPG and please the original fanbase, with a whopping 100 GB file size.

Reddit user aniphreak posted a now-deleted photo of the packaging of the title, which has been captured for posterity below. The Korean version of the cover of the game looks legitimate and states the file size was 100 GB, which would be a huge amount for players to download and install. However, there have been plenty of games that have justified their file size with the quality of the game itself. Whether or not this file size is accurate remains to be seen and at this point, as the deleted image could be a false claim.

The opening movie for the Final Fantasy 7 remake has excited fans of the original with its faithful but far better-looking aesthetic, and given this new look, it's possible that plays a role in the overall rumored file size for the game. Of course, fans of the franchise should take that file size with a grain of salt, but it's not totally out there, as Red Dead Redemption 2 took up 99 GBs on the PS4.

Speaking of the console, Final Fantasy 7 will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive, much like the original but just for a year. While this means Xbox fans will unfortunately have to wait, it's really to be expected at this point. That said, there are a ton of Final Fantasy games making their way to Xbox Game Pass in the near future, so there may be something there to bide the time.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will release on April 10, 2020, for the PS4.
