Square Enix's E3 2019 press conference doesn't start until Monday evening at 6:00 pm PT, but for Final Fantasy 7 fans, the announcements have come early. Tetsuya Nomura showed up at a special E3 concert dedicated to Final Fantasy 7 to confirm that the remake of the classic JRPG will be launching on March 3, 2020. Final Fantasy fans can expect a more built-up confirmation of the announcement, as well as further reveals, during tomorrow's Square Enix press conference.

Alongside the release date announcement, Nomura also released a brand new trailer for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. While the trailer doesn't stretch any further into the game than previous Final Fantasy 7 Remake trailers, it does show additional footage from the early sections of the game. Those sections include the attack on the Mako reactor with Barrett, Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge, as well as Cloud's first meeting with the flower girl, Aerith.

Some short sequences of combat are shown in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trailer, as well. Players get a chance to see some of the real-time combat that will make up Final Fantasy 7 Remake's action, including some familiar abilities and the Buster Sword at work. Much more in-depth gameplay is expected during Square Enix's press conference tomorrow, June 10th.

Today's release date announcement marks three years since the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was initially announced during E3 2015. Fans then waited nearly two years before Square Enix delivered new footage of the game, but only recently has gameplay been shown. A release date after so many years of silence is a welcome surprise, but may seem a bit unreal.

There's clearly much left for Square Enix to reveal about the forthcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake release. For instance, Square Enix has reconfirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released episodically, like what was initially announced. But so far Square Enix has only shown off gameplay from very early in the game, making it unclear just how big each episode will be. Perhaps Square Enix will show off characters or areas from further into the game tomorrow. Or it will offer a release schedule for further episodes.

Tune into Monday's Square Enix E3 2019 press conference, starting at 6:00 pm PT, for more information on Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
