Final Fantasy 7 Remake players are treated to a flashback showing Aerith's mother, Elmyra, and Aerith as a young girl. In both the PS4 version and the PS5 Intergrade version, this cutscene is sepiatone, indicating that it happened in the past, but one player found an ingenious way to colorize it again using the new photo mode. Photo mode is one of many new features to come to the PS5 version of the game, and players are already finding a ton of Easter eggs and secrets with it. The colorization of this flashback scene is just one more neat thing to add to the list.

For those that may have missed it, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is the PS5 version of the game, and it adds a photo mode for players to use. This pauses the game and allows free movement of the camera, and players can even edit the photos by applying filters, changing brightness, and more.

As it happens, using photo mode in a cutscene pauses the cutscene and gives players all the same options as normal. This can be used during the Elmyra flashback scenes to remove the sepia filter placed on this cutscene and see what it actually would have looked like. This is particularly interesting because it implies that the cutscene was created in full color at first and then the filter was added on later to make it look like a flashback. Redditor felixoshea is the one that discovered this, and has posted a few images of the cutscene in color.

There are a lot of neat details that this colorization adds to the game. For example, one of the first things that fans noticed is that Aerith is wearing green in the flashback. While this may seem strange to some given that she usually wears pink clothing, this is in line with what young Aerith wore in the original Final Fantasy 7. Unfortunately, players can't move the camera around during cutscenes like this, but it is still a pretty neat feature.

For those players wanting to try this for themselves, the easiest way to do it is to simply apply the Train Graveyard filter. This restores the colors and doesn't add a ton of overlays, allowing players to see what the flashback actually looked like when it happened. Of course, players could also mess with the scene as well if they wanted, adding all sorts of filters and effects. It's exciting to see what fans will discover next with photo mode in Final Fantasy 7 Remake
