Earlier this year, GeForce Now files leaked a ton of games that weren’t even confirmed to exist. Some of these were speculative titles on GeForce Now’s part, which makes sense, but some of them were right on the money. This includes titles like God of War’s PC port and GTA Trilogy, with more titles likely to be proven right in the near to far future. Now, a new Geforce Now leak mentions several release dates alongside games, such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

When Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released, fans know that it did so with a timed PlayStation exclusivity. It’s only available on PS4 and PS5 as of this writing, but many PC and Xbox players have hoped to get their hands on it eventually. This was further complicated earlier this year when Square Enix revealed it and Sony had extended Final Fantasy 7 Remake's exclusivity contract by another 6 months.

This announcement, of course, only meant that FF7R was restrained to PlayStation platforms for longer and wouldn’t mean that, day and date this agreement ended, the games could appear on other platforms. With all of this in mind, the GeForce Now leak has suggested that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released on PC on June 1, 2022.

Given the extension and Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s original release date, this roughly sounds like it would be enough time to deliver on a port and abide by the agreement. One notable aspect is that June 1, 2022, is a Wednesday, though games typically release on Tuesdays and Fridays. However, final Fantasy as a franchise has only ever loosely kept itself to this rule, as Final Fantasy 16’s release date tease by PlayStation also suggests. So it could be a placeholder, it could be speculation, or it could be completely off the mark.

Fans should take this with a grain of salt, but there are certainly kernels of truth in past GeForce Now leaks. Hopefully, this is one of those kernels. Fans can probably expect this announcement later this year or earlier next year, but it all’s up in the air of course. Perhaps fans will also learn more about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 around then as well, as it’s been quite a while since it was even mentioned.

No one knows, even now, how many parts are in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but at least three makes sense—especially given the amount of detail in the first game. But perhaps fans will know more in the coming months, as PlayStation fans will be hungry for news if a PC port is announced for the first part too.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available now on PS4 and PS5.
