Video game soundtracks continue to be a big business as fans support and enjoy the tunes that accompany them through their gaming journeys. As more soundtracks hit streaming services like the majority of Final Fantasy titles now available on Spotify, there is still a big demand for physical releases of entire soundtracks. Square Enix has revealed that it will continue to release such collections, now with a new edition of one 2020's biggest titles.
The publisher and developer announced Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be getting a new soundtrack release this December adding a lot more for fans. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Original Soundtrack Plus was revealed by the official Square Enix Music Twitter account which linked to a detailed post about what the new edition adds.
The new soundtrack will include a slew of unreleased tracks that were present in the remake of the classic 1997 JRPG. The four CD set will include background music tracks, cutscenes, and additional features that were not found in the original release of the soundtrack. The soundtrack for the title, scored by Nobuo Uematsu and Masashi Hamauzu, was one of the reasons Final Fantasy 7 Remake received high review scores.
The Plus edition of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake soundtrack, which releases on December 23 in Japan, is actually the fifth release for the game's score. Beyond the basic original soundtrack, Square Enix has also released the Orchestral Arrangement Album, the Acoustic Arrangements and the dual Vinyl pack which features Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the original Final Fantasy 7 soundtracks. The Plus soundtrack will also feature original artwork by franchise character designer Tetsuya Nomura.
The reveal of a new edition of Final Fantasy 7 Remake's soundtrack comes after a big week of news for the current PlayStation 4 time-exclusive. Last week saw Final Fantasy 7 Remake get its first patch since releasing back in April. The new 1.01 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake fixes many of the lingering issues players were finding throughout their adventure in the slums of Midgar. It primarily deals with notable crashing and performance issues that were present since launch.
Other than just the current PlayStation 4 title getting some overdue technical attention, there are rumblings that this may be the start for a much bigger upgrade. Rumors have started that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be getting a PlayStation 5 support update to utilize the power of Sony's upcoming hardware. No official announcement has been made regarding the next-gen upgrade but with the PlayStation 5 launch under a month away, information will likely release soon.
