Fans of Final Fantasy and other Square Enix properties have been given ample opportunities to attend live concerts performing some of the greatest tracks from the developer's titles. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, a few Final Fantasy 7 Remake world tour concert dates have now been canceled, with the fate of even more up in the air.

The current Final Fantasy 7 Remake World Tour Concert was initially announced early in 2020, and several locations have already enjoyed the concert for themselves over the past year. However, the upcoming tour dates set for February have now been canceled.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake World Tour Concert was next slated to have performances held in Tokyo, Japan, running from February 12 to February 13. At the moment, a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been declared in Tokyo, which has shut down major events through February 7. However, this state of emergency is expected to be extended, and it seems Square Enix has taken the initiative in canceling the concerts in order to protect its fans and to comply with any further extensions.

What this means for the future concert tour dates is unclear. A livestreamed version of the concert was set to be played on February 13 online, but Square Enix has yet to announce whether that's still going to happen or has been canceled as well. Without an audience, it will likely be safer for the performance to be held, but it could still put the performers themselves at risk, so it's not guaranteed to happen. The Osaka, Japan concert, set for April, also has an unknown fate at this time, as predicting the outcome of the COVID-19 pandemic that far in advance is nearly impossible.

While fans who have been awaiting the concert are likely disappointed, Square Enix is providing refunds for tickets. Given the overwhelming popularity of Final Fantasy 7 and the unusual circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, it's also highly likely that Square Enix will arrange for future concerts to be held in Tokyo in order to help make up for skipping these upcoming performances. However, exactly how far out any new dates for performances will have to be set for remains to be seen.

While video games have been a huge boon for gamers cooped up at home due to the pandemic, the industry has been heavily shaken by it. Multiple games have been delayed due to developers and even voice actors having to transition to working from home, and the result of those changes may still be felt for another year or more to come, as the virus continues to be a danger in 2021.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is out now for PS4, with a second installment in development.
