Final Fantasy 7 Remake plans to introduce another new character into the game. His name is Chadley, and he's heavily tied into the game's side quest system, which Final Fantasy 7 Remake uniquely refers to as "mercenary quests."

Players don't have to complete these objectives in order to progress through the game, but doing so will net them rewards they couldn't earn otherwise. And, according to some new information from Remake, Chadley will be a reoccurring mercenary quest provider for anyone looking.

His questlines are collectively known as the "Battle Reports," and they will mainly revolve around Materia. As a 15-year-old trainee working for the Shinra Electric Power Company's Science Division, Chadley wants to discover and develop new types of Materia. However, doing so will require him to sometimes interact with and even take down monsters, and he isn't capable of doing the latter. Cloud, on the other hand, specializes in that area, so Chadley will frequently ask him and his companions for help with his studies.

Completing Chadley's tasks will, of course, result in him creating new Materia, which he'll then reward or sell to Cloud's group in return for their assistance. It's worth noting that his Battle Reports won't just have the player defeating enemies through conventional means with every task, though. Sometimes, Chadley will need Cloud to kill something in a very particular way or to simply assess a specific type of Materia a certain number of times. In fact, mercenary quests, in general, can call for a variety of things. According to Square Enix, one mission, in particular, will see Cloud finding the requester's kitty.

It looks like Chadley might be the only reoccurring mercenary quest provider in the game with the way Remake has focused on him. The fact that he rewards players with new Materia does make him fairly valuable in comparison to other quest givers, though, as Materia powers most of the combat options a player has in-game.

However, there's no reason why other characters can't appear to consistently gift players with things like weapons and other equipment for completing tasks. As it stands now, though, the only rewards given by side quest characters, aside from Chadley, has been "Gil," which is the currency used in Final Fantasy. Remake's launch is fast approaching, though, so players won't have to wait much longer to see just how diverse mercenary quests and their reward can be.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will launch for the PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020.
