Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its sequels are the latest projects from Square Enix, retelling portions of the story from the original Final Fantasy 7. This new iteration on a now-classic RPG reinvents itself with new storylines, characters, and sequences that fans have certainly taken a liking to. While the original Midgar sequence had many interesting ideas, the remake expands and does something new with many of those moments. This includes segments such as Cloud cross-dressing, the random encounter hell house turned boss fight, and the fact Sephiroth makes a much earlier and more impactful appearance.

While Final Fantasy 7 Remake takes place entirely in Midgar, many memorable moments during this portion of the original still stick out with fans. The remake had to keep various elements similar while also making changes to keep things fresh. Square Enix needed to walk a fine line between fan service and telling the same story with a twist, and it seems like it has accomplished this quite well so far as many fans have enjoyed this retelling.

For one of the best examples of how Final Fantasy 7 Remake has changed, fans just need to look at the Honeybee Inn segment.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 1 Major Deviations

Final Fantasy 7 Remake has done a really good job with the source material, considering how well the game has done in both sales and reviews. This can only mean that going forward the sequels will continue to make tweaks to the story and the more memorable moments. The Honeybee Inn dance segment featured Cloud transforming into his cross-dressing persona, with a rhythm mini-game alongside part of it. This turned the somewhat mundane task of running back and forth to gather the required ingredients in the original Final Fantasy 7 into something much more memorable than it was.

Another deviation Final Fantasy 7 Remake imposed was the Hell House boss battle introduced in the middle of the game. The original Final Fantasy 7 had random encounters in areas on the map where players would travel. One minor yet puzzling area was the only place players could randomly encounter the Hell House. This enemy came alone and had much more health than the other enemies in the zone. After some damage was taken, the house would transform into a more deadly form making it quite a threat early on in the game. Final Fantasy 7 Remake takes this secluded random battle and turns it into a full-fledged boss battle due to how memorable the random encounter was.

These kinds of decisions are what have some fans wondering what Square Enix will do for Part 2 onwards. There are countless random enemy variants in Final Fantasy 7 that are just as bizarre as the Hell House once the player leaves Midgar. Some of these enemy types range from mech-dinosaurs and ladies in bikinis, to more absurd like a mini-bus-sized ghost ship with an oar-wielding skeleton strapped to the bow and a torso of a man swinging on a giant blade from the ceiling. Final Fantasy Remake Part 2 will probably do something similar in scale and feature some of these enemies in a larger-than-life way.

Expected Changes to Come in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2

final fantasy 7 remake story change

Fans should expect a larger portion of Final Fantasy 7's world to be showcased in Part 2 as it won't be confined to one city. As teased in IntergradeFinal Fantasy 7 Part 2 will probably start around the town of Kalm, as that was the natural progression of the original. After Kalm, players can catch a Chocobo so they can cross the marshlands safely while avoiding the Midgar Zolom. The Midgar Zolom is a giant serpent that players do not have to avoid, but at that point in the story, it would be quite the challenging task to face one on their way to Mythril Mine. This optional route could be vastly changed in Final Fantasy 7 Part 2 where it becomes mandatory to fight or avoid the creature at that point in the story.

Introduced in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is the minigame that players wouldn't have originally encountered until after the Mythril Mines at Fort Condor. The minigame itself is simply called Fort Condor, in reference to the real-time strategy mini-game that took place exclusively at Fort Condor in the original. When players reach Fort Condor in the remake, it will probably be a much bigger spectacle than the original and how the minigame is presented in Intergrade. This is also around the time in the original where players could optionally find Yuffie in the wild, and this may be explored deeper while perhaps being unavoidable due to Yuffie's newfound role.

The arrival at Junon is a big event in the original Final Fantasy 7. The new president of Shinra Rufus is being honored in a parade, where Cloud and party take part in order to sneak on board a ship crossing the ocean. This sequence saw some minor minigames that will more likely be reworked if included such as Cloud giving a little girl CPR, marching in the parade, and performing in front of Rufus. Junon is also quite a large city and will most likely be represented as such in Final Fantasy 7 Part 2 as Junon is an important set piece for this part of the game and future chapters. After Junon, there is a multitude of places and events players will surely experience in Part 2, most likely become much more of a spectacle.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 Important Moments

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 has to tread over many story elements across a large portion of the game's world. Some fans think Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 will end around the Temple of the Ancients, an important part in the story where a character leaves the party. If that's the case, then fans can expect a good portion of the game to delve into many of the party member's backstories, probably to greater detail. After Junon, Barret reveals his troubled past in Corel, with the Gold Saucer and Corel Prison as a large set-piece. This portion features many new minigames including Chocobo Racing which will more likely be fleshed out in the sequel as well as a new party member.

Red XIII's backstory will be explored more when the party reaches Cosmo Canyon, which will also cement Barret's belief that the planet is truly a living organism. Tifa and Cloud's backstory is explored further beyond Kalm as the party will reach Nibelheim, their hometown that was supposed to be destroyed. The party will encounter and learn more about Cid after Nibelheim, possibly acquiring a water traversing vehicle. It's at this point that in the original the player can travel to Wutai where Yuffie's backstory unfolds, though it's uncertain if any part of that will be changed. Lastly, Aerith's backstory will be fleshed out more when the party ultimately reaches the Temple of the Ancients.

Suffice to say it can be expected that Square Enix has a big job ahead of it, as this part of the original Final Fantasy 7 had a lot to unravel. Though it's uncertain how much of the original will be included or reworked, with what fans have seen in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 1 it's safe to say they will be turning some of these moments into a much newer experience.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is in development.
