At its E3 press conference, Square Enix revealed more details about the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake. While the gameplay presentation went more in-depth on how combat works, and also showed new footage from the game's very first boss fight.

Some key details to point out from Final Fantasy 7's Guard Scorpion boss fight include a more open battlefield, various stages in the fight where the enemy will alter its strategy, and how the environment changes. It's been known that combat will be changed drastically from how the original game's active, time-based battles worked, with the new boss demo also showing how players can seamlessly transition between characters on the fly.

The battle also showed the Scorpion changing between close and long-range positions, which will surely lead to the reliance on using a variety of characters against different enemy types throughout the game. The video also showed both Cloud and Barrett having to hide behind debris to avoid taking damage, emphasizing the importance of using the battlefield in different ways.

Gameplay of the boss fight was just one of the many things fans got to see during the extensive Final Fantasy VII Remake portion of the conference. While it was confirmed the remake will still release episodically, the first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake is still too big to fit on one disc. Other details include the first gameplay footage of both Tifa and Aerith in combat, as well as a small cameo of main antagonist Sephiroth.
