Video game development has come a very long way in twenty years, especially when compared to the best visual graphics game studios have to offer in this day and age. The same can be said of Final Fantasy 7, which has now been directly compared scene-by-scene with the latest trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

The comparisons, posted by Twitter user Haidox3D, provide a stunning contrast to show just how far Square Enix has come as a developer, as well as how much technology has advanced since the late 1990s. While most gamers most likely know that Final Fantasy 7 Remake's graphics have undergone a dramatic upgrade from its original version, it's still rather impressive to see them side by side to note the extreme differences, especially for those who never played the original.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will flesh out the original mission Cloud embarks on with Barret and his crew, providing members like Jessie and Wedge more time in the spotlight, which is evident in this comparison. It's unclear exactly how many hours players can expect to spend playing the first episodic chapter, but the story has been developed enough to fill two discs all on its own. Notably absent from the comparison, however, is Tifa, who was finally revealed in the most recent E3 2019 trailer.

While a lot has changed over the years, many fans are likely glad to see how hard Square Enix is working to keep this version faithful to the original. Camera angles are nearly identical in many of the comparison shots, and while the character models have changed dramatically, it's clear that they're still closely based on the original designs. It's apparent the developer knows it has extremely high expectations to make, and it seems that it's working hard to potentially even surpass players' hopes.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake isn't far off now, and following its reveals during E3 2019, there's a lot more for fans to be excited over. Tifa's premiere revealed her in combat alongside Aeris, marking the first time players get to see the female fighters in action. However, the reveal might take a little getting used to for long-time series fans, as all voice actors in Final Fantasy 7 Remake have been recast from their prior voices, with some of the actors voicing Final Fantasy 7 characters all the way back to Kingdom Hearts.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake releases March 3rd, 2020 for PS4.
