It's fair to say that Tetsuya Nomura has a lot on his plate at the moment, given his role as director of both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3. After all, both titles have a huge amount of expectation tied to them, and both have been awaited by fans for a long time. Thankfully, Nomura has been able to manage both projects at once, and has recently explained how this works for him in spite of the pressure of both titles.

Speaking in a recent interview, the director did admit that being able to manage his schedule is one of the biggest challenges facing him, but that there are a few things that work in his favor. In particular, Nomura has noted that the different natures of both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 have not caused any troubles at all, and instead the differences between the titles has worked out quite well, in particular when it comes to avoiding any duplication of tone or style.

Indeed, the fact that both games are being developed at the same time seems like it may have allowed Nomura more flexibility in terms of gameplay and design ideas. The director has stated that anything he is unable to accomplish with one of the titles instead has the potential to act as a part of the other. Who knows, perhaps those new Kingdom Hearts 3 keyblades may have culminated in changes in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

However, it does seem as though there's only so much one man can do, particularly when it comes to attending events. Nomura brought this up, explaining that while rushing to prepare for his visit for the D23 expo to talk Kingdom Hearts 3, he also had to schedule a meeting for Final Fantasy 7. The director seems to be taking these scheduling challenges in his stride, though, suggesting that it "comes with the territory."

So far, so good, particularly for fans of Kingdom Hearts 3. After a long time waiting, fans of the series were able to get some solid information on the game through D23, with particular relief when the release date for Kingdom Hearts 3 was finally confirmed for 2018 (although a more finite release window has yet to be revealed). Meanwhile, a look at the game's Toy Story-themed world was also much appreciated.

For Final Fantasy 7 Remake, however, things remain much more up in the air, with the game failing to make an appearance at E3 2017. However, with Kingdom Hearts 3 set to launch in 2018, perhaps Nomura will be able to provide the gaming community with some much-wanted updates on the status of the project soon.

Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released in 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One, while Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently in development for PS4.
