In a move no one saw coming, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has partnered with Butterfinger for a time-limited event. It will take place from March 3 to May 14, and give players a chance to win exclusive FF7 Remake DLC.

Sadly, the event will only be available to players in the US since Butterfinger is the product of a US-based company. It seems a little weird that Final Fantasy 7 Remake would choose the US for an exclusive event and not Japan, but a recent tweet posted by the official Remake Twitter account implies the developers of the game wanted to do something nice for the US fanbase.

In order to participate in the upcoming event, players will have to purchase two chocolate bars originating from Ferraro Candy Company, which is Butterfinger's producer. Participants will be able to choose from three different types of candy: Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, and Crunch. Any combination of these items works so long as the player buys two in the same transaction. Once they've done that, players will have to snap a photo of their receipt's barcode and upload it, though where exactly hasn't been announced yet. The campaign does state that players will only be able to upload one receipt per day, however, and that the winners will only be able to redeem the DLC once Final Fantasy 7 Remake launches.

What exactly the DLC will consist of also hasn't been announced yet. But one of the events promotions may provide a clue. It's an image that shows several rings, Materia, and the words "Powerful In-Game Content," which gives the impression that the DLC will gift players with something along the lines of unique equipment and Materia. As this is a region-exclusive event, the items likely won't be anything too powerful, rather some small boosts that help out with early-game activities.

It's possible Remake's developer may announce other region exclusive events soon since it is doing one for the US. But if not, all the DLC will more than likely make its way to other areas eventually. On a side note, the Butterfinger promotion also mentions that a dynamic Tifa Lockhart theme will arrive on the same day as the event: March 3.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will launch for the PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020.
