With the release of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake drawing ever closer, fans have been quick to grasp onto any news about the upcoming release whenever they can. Looking to oblige the starving fan base, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake official Twitter account released a short interview explaining how one of Aerith's special moves will work in the new version of the game.

The tweet in question shows producer (and director of the original FF7) Yoshinori Kitase answering a question about how Aerith's ability Tempest works in the remake. This ability isn't one of Aerith's Limit Breaks, but is instead a character-specific ability that is usable without the need to fill the Limit Meter.

The way Tempest works is that when cast, Aerith will send out a crystal towards the target that hangs in the air for a short amount of time before detonating and damaging all enemies in the area. Keeping in line with Aerith's primary focus as a magic user, the ability becomes a long range, area-of-effect attack that can be used for crowd control when multiple enemies attack the party at once. From the video, the attack itself can be seen to have all of the flair and beautiful aesthetic that every other trailer and preview has shown the Final Fantasy 7 Remake to have.

Some fans have noted that this seems to show a different approach to Aerith's natural abilities. Specifically, Aerith's Limit Breaks, the only character-specific abilities available in the original, only offered support in the original Final Fantasy 7, healing and buffing the team as opposed to attacking enemies. However, Aerith's affinity for magic did mean that she was useful as a caster both offensively and defensively, with her ability to deal heavy damage determined largely by player customization and strategy, which may be useful against the new content the Final Fantasy 7 Remake will include.

This is only a small sample of what is to come for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but it does offer quite a few insights for the astute fan looking to do some early prep and research on combat strategies before the game releases on March 3rd, 2020. Not only do characters have their own specific attacks that don't depend on materia placement or filling the Limit Meter, but some characters' battle dynamics are being tweaked to fit into the new battle system that learns the history of the Final Fantasy series that succeeded the original Final Fantasy 7. With Aerith able to take a more aggressive stance in combat thanks to Tempest and her other abilities, some players may reconsider where she belongs in their team structure.
