Many fans of Final Fantasy rejoiced when news came that Final Fantasy 7 - among other series classics - would be making its way to the handheld hybrid Nintendo Switch and the Xbox One earlier this year. Unfortunately, a familiar glitch that has been an issue in multiple versions appeared yet again on these two ports. Now, that glitch has finally been fixed with a new patch.

Final Fantasy 7 players were disappointed to discover upon the port's release for the Switch and Xbox One that the infamous overworld audio glitch was still present. This particular bug has popped up in multiple ports of the game over the years. Under normal circumstances, players who enter a fight from the overworld map eventually return to the map, and the overworld music continues where it left off. Unfortunately, in these two most recent ports - and some older ones - the audio would simply restart from the top every time a player came back to the overworld.

Square Enix has now released a patch fixing this glaring error for Final Fantasy 7 on the Switch and Xbox One. This patch fixes the looping audio, and it has also fixed the glitch that would cause the screen to flash black when transitioning between gameplay and cutscenes.

Unfortunately, many Final Fantasy fans are still wondering when these fixes will make it to other ports of Final Fantasy 7. Many PS4 users have complained that the issue is still a problem on the PS4, and at this time, Square Enix has not announced any plans for the fix to make its way to that console. In addition, Final Fantasy 9's Switch port has the same problem, and there's no word on whether or not the developer will be patching it, and if so, when.

Whether or not the PS4 version receives its own patch, it's only the beginning of Final Fantasy 7 goodness for players on that console. The long-awaited Final Fantasy 7 Remake will finally be getting more details revealed in June, possibly at E3 2019. While the recently released trailer has fans eagerly awaiting more, the episodic take on the game probably won't see its first entry until sometime after 2019, so there's still plenty of time to revisit the port.

Final Fantasy 7's 1.01 patch is available now on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
