Since the official announcement of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, many fans have been waiting with bated breath for any details that they can get on this highly anticipated title. To this point, these details have been slim, and players continue to stand by for information on things like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date and more. That said, a recent Final Fantasy 7 Remake "leak" looks to blow the lid off the whole thing, purporting to reveal a ton of particulars about the game.
This Final Fantasy 7 Remake leak was posted on Reddit, just days ago, by a user claiming to have information from the publishing and localization branch of Square Enix in El Segundo, California. This post was promptly deleted, but not before other Redditors were able to capture the shared information. These details have since been reposted, and they cover a ton of topics, including the Final Fantasy 7 Remake gameplay and beyond.
To note, the following details may act as spoilers to those that wish to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake with no prior information, and these players are thus advised to turn back now. Additionally, due to the extensiveness of this Final Fantasy 7 Remake leak, the contents have been grouped thematically.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake: How Many Parts
The leak addresses the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will release in multiple parts. This information will already be known to those that are following development, but the leak assigns a number to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake parts, stating that there will be two. It is said that Part 1 will end "as Aerith is let down into the water after her death and a fade to black," and it is further suggested that each Final Fantasy 7 Remake part will cost $59.99.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Characters
The leak provides details on a number of Final Fantasy 7 Remake characters. A summary of that information is as follows:
- Sephiroth is only shown in glances, and heard as voice over, until the flashback at Kalm Town.
- The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Tifa design is "true to the original outfit," with her face being "mostly similar to her Advent Children design." Materia is visible on her gloves.
- Cait Sith is pronounced "Ket Sith," and he has "undergone no major design overhaul." He is a close range fighter with Limit Break bars.
- Players must fight the clones of Red XIII, Cobalt XIV and Indigo XV, before he joins the party in Shinra Headquarters.
- Cid's smoking is seemingly not shown, but there is indication that he is a smoker.
- Yuffie and Vincent are not optional characters, and players will be required to add them to their parties at certain points. Yuffie, for example, will automatically join the party if a player has not added her prior to Rocket Town.
- The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Cloud will still don a dress and wig in one particular scene, but the game will fade to black while he changes.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Combat & Summons
The leak goes into several aspects of Final Fantasy 7 Remake combat, starting with some information about weapons. Specifically, it is stated that different weapons have their own "heavy hits," with an example being that the Buster Sword has a Punisher attack while the Rune Blade has Cleave. Using these "heavy hits" does not consume an ATB charge, and they are to be used after "a string of regulars hits."
It is said that the regular hits deal slight damage, and the primary source of offensive power is heavy hits. Limit Breaks allow for even great damage potential, and the leak further indicates that using magic will consume both ATB charges and MP.
With respect to Final Fantasy 7 Remake summons, it is said that they function as cut scenes very much like in the original Final Fantasy 7. It is also indicated that there is a new summon called Amarok, a wolf that "causes darkness in addition to damage."
Final Fantasy 7 Remake: World Map & Locations
The leak goes into the Final Fantasy 7 Remake open world, claiming that the "over-world map is almost seamless," though there are some discrete zones. It is also stated that vehicles will assist in navigating the Final Fantasy 7 Remake world map, and the leak calls out the Tiny Bronco in particular, which is said to "work almost exactly the same" as in the original game. As many would expect, Chocobos are referenced in the leak as well.
There is also a section of the leak that focuses on the game's towns. Specifically, it is stated that "each town is very unique," and direct examples are given. For instance, it is said that the streets of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Midgar are in "stark contrast" to Cosmo Canyon, where dust storms occasionally occur.
Additionally, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake leak claims that Shinra Headquarters has fewer floors than in the original game, but that there is more to explore on each floor. It is also stated that Honey Bee Inn requires Gil to access, rather than a Membership Card, and that only some games in Golden Saucer will be playable prior to the location being incorporated into the game's story.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Materia
The leak indicates that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Materia is visible on almost every weapon, and equipped weapons will display on character models while exploring. In contrast, Materia does not appear on armor, and equipped armor is not shown on character models.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Demo
The leak states that a Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo will be on the floor at E3 2019. Furthermore, it is claimed that a home demo will be available, to those with PlayStation Plus, immediately after E3.
Certainly, the entirety of this Final Fantasy 7 Remake leak should be approached with extreme skepticism. That said, the extent of it, combined with some of its oddly specific statements, make it an intriguing read indeed. Fortunately, fans may get a chance to see Final Fantasy 7 Remake at E3 and will hopefully get official word on some of these claims.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is in development exclusively for PS4.
