For the better part of a decade, Final Fantasy fans have been waiting for Square Enix to stop looking forward and take a step back. They want a Final Fantasy 7 HD remake, and no matter how many times Square Enix teases fans they have yet to give them what they want. That could change today.

According to a series of rumors, it appears Square Enix is finally ready to announce a Final Fantasy 7 HD remake, and many are pointing towards Sony’s E3 2015 Press Conference as where the announcement will take place.

Admittedly, Final Fantasy fans are nervous about Final Fantasy 7 HD remake rumors, as they have been burned before. Over a year ago, it appeared as if Square Enix was going to announce Final Fantasy 7 HD, but it turned out they were just releasing the PC port of Final Fantasy 7. It was the ultimate troll, and many FF fans were stunned.

As far as we know, that PC Port of Final Fantasy 7 is still coming to PS4 this year, but that might change by the end of the day. Perhaps the sour reception to the PC port announcement convinced Square Enix that it’s time to give Final Fantasy 7 fans what they want.

While the rumors point towards Sony’s E3 2015 Press Conference as the place for this Final Fantasy 7 HD announcement, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Square save it for their own Press Conference on Tuesday morning. Normally, Square Enix doesn’t host an E3 press conference, but apparently the publisher has enough upcoming product to support a full event. We also know that Final Fantasy 15 won’t be at the Press Conference, so it’s possible that Square Enix didn’t want to overload Final Fantasy fans with too much. There’s only so much info that a publisher can squeeze into a single conference.

We’ll be on hand at Sony’s E3 2015 Conference breaking all the news that’s fit to print, so stick tuned to Game Rant for coverage of E3 week in full. It’s already been a pretty exciting show so far, thanks to the gameplay reveal for Fallout 4, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
