Square Enix surprised many fans when it announced a battle royale spin-off to Final Fantasy 7 called Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier. This was announced alongside other Final Fantasy 7 related projects, such as Ever Crisis: Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. The First Soldier acts as a prequel to the original JRPG, where it is a battle royale shooter much like other titles like Fortnite and PUBG Battlegrounds. The game has already seen a bit of success, as evidenced by a second season of content coming to the game soon.

Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier has seen plenty of periodic updates since it was released, with much of the content being added revolving around new costumes and weapons. One of the latest cosmetics added include costumes based on Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children, where players could earn skins based on Cloud, Tifa, and Barret's appearances in the film. They may also get a chance of getting Cloud's motorbike, Fenrir, as a skin, as well as his Fusion Sword as a weapon and item skins. The game will be continuing to get support this year, with the announcement of a second season of content.

In this blog post on Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier's official website, the game's creative director Tetsuya Nomura shows off what will be included in this new season. According to a rough translation of the post, there will be several new maps added into the game, along with a "President's Cup" tournament mode. This will feature full-scale competitions that players will be able to participate in, with more details to be revealed in an upcoming broadcast. The bigger reveal however was a piece of promotional art for the second season, where a new class will be added.

The piece of promo art depicts an armored character with a spear, along with a set of draconic wings. Many fans of the series will probably recognize this being Final Fantasy's staple Dragoon class, best known for their jumping and lance abilities. While several other classes like Warrior, Sorcerer, Ninja and Monk are already a part of the game, this potential new addition could be a nice change up for fans to try.

The post also notes that the team behind the game is looking to improve Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier in many ways. This includes balance changes to different classes, to addressing various points of feedback that fans gave through a questionnaire. While there isn't a set release date for this new season, Nomura ends the post with the hopes that players will enjoy what will be coming soon.

Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier is available now for iOS and Android devices.
