With the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, hype for the series and FF7 in particular has been revived to a huge degree. The remake already has many spinoff projects centered around it, including a DLC with its own soundtrack release.

Since its release, the already massive story of Final Fantasy 7 has expanded to an almost unwieldy degree, yet its story still resonates with players, as do updates to its gameplay. FF7 reshaped the series in many ways and its presence continues to be felt outside the game and its remake proper and even in other Final Fantasy spinoff products. One of these is the Final Fantasy Card Game, which is releasing a new starter set tying in with Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

The starter pack is designed for two players and puts the focus on Avalanche Vs. Shinra. The conflict comes straight out of the game, with Avalanche characters like Barret, Tifa, and the ubiquitous Cloud Strife in one deck and Shinra agents in the other. This includes the Turks and Rufus, the heir to the company who gives Cloud a very memorable fight in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Battles between Shinra and Avalanche make up the majority of Final Fantasy 7 Remake's central conflict and help contribute to its strong foundation for future installments.

The card game was originally released in Japan in 2011 before being remade, re-released in Japan, and released in the United States in 2016. The remake, entitled the Opus version, has since had several sets released, including another Final Fantasy 7 Remake themed starter pack. The previous pack focused on Cloud Vs. Sephiroth, sticking closer to the overall story of FF7. With the date and price of the Intergrade DLC revealed, it's worth wondering whether or not said DLC will get its own starter set or themed deck as well.

This is far from the only spinoff of Final Fantasy 7 Remake that will see players facing off against each other rather than the game itself. There is also Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier, a battle royale game that ties directly into the Final Fantasy 7 timeline.

There is also the question of how many more characters (the main damage dealers in the Card Game) from the Final Fantasy 7 timeline will make their way into the Final Fantasy Card Game. With the upcoming Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis covering the whole FF7 timeline, it's possible that more cards will be added as it brings people up to speed. Perhaps Zack Fair or his predecessors will have a theme deck of their own.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
