Though it may be hard for some to believe, Final Fantasy 7 released 25 years ago, on January 31, 1997. In honor of this momentous anniversary, Square Enix is holding a Final Fantasy 7 stream with special guests in the form of the game's character designer, Tetsuya Nomura, and director, Yoshinori Kitase.

While there's no doubt that this is a reason for fans to celebrate, many would likely rather look to the future of Final Fantasy 7 than its past. Unfortunately for those fans, this stream may not be what they're hoping for.

The upcoming Final Fantasy 7 stream will be held on January 31 at 5 am ET. While many would likely expect to hear some kind of news regarding the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, the developer hasn't teased any sort of information regarding the title. Instead, the stream has been explicitly teased as having news regarding Final Fantasy 7 The First Soldier.

While the game saw its official launch a quarter of a century ago, it's rarely gone stagnant for long. Between movies, spin-off games, ports, and the Remake, there's often been something for fans to look forward to. While Final Fantasy 7 fans may be eager to learn more about The First Soldier, there will likely still be some who are disappointed if there really isn't anything shared regarding the second part of the Remake.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched nearly two years ago, and fans are eager for more. Of course, the wait for the Remake itself took a long time, especially with it being delayed. The recent Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade added more story content and may be helping to tide fans over. Still, those who are eagerly awaiting upcoming characters, locales, and battles would surely like to see something from Square Enix offering some kind of teaser for Part 2, even if it's as brief as the initial teaser showing Cloud jumping off the train for Part 1 was.

For now, it remains to be seen when fans will get a new teaser or a release window for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. With COVID-19 having changed the way the world works over the last couple years, there's a good chance that the development of the follow-up has been impacted in some shape or form. Unfortunately, this could mean a longer than expected wait for the next part. With any luck, though, Part 2 can provide the same award-winning experience Final Fantasy 7 Remake did.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
